roof racks for a current Tiguan

    all,
been spotting some Tigs on Syd roads with roof racks fitted. Noticing all kinda brands and styles, example
    - rail bar,
    - flush bar
    - through bar

Prorack WHISPBAR is one that stuck out , purely from appearance + lockable feature + design.... then after some google searching got to read more about it. This bar is really quite compared to other brands. (wind tunnel tested - video avail on website)
Whispbar - Australia's Quietest, Most Fuel Efficient Roof Rack System

    So, the Q is,
has anybody got whispbar ? would you recommend it ? supercheap chain sell it but what about in all black to match rail bar (darker colour tiguans).

    any comments ?
    tnks. zack

    G'day Zack
I have just put rhino racks on my Tig.The model for the Tig from Rhino is black and matchs the fixed roof rails. Also Rola rack make one that will suit the Tig[in black] The fitting on both of these brands is very similar as far as the clamp and bolt setup.
I am getting some wind noise with mine at present, dont know why as I also had the Rhino racks on my previous Ford Ranger and didnt get any wind noise at all.I would be a bit wary of anything ex supersheep as it is probably brought in from China.
    Anyway best of luck

I have the straight across Prorack bars and they seem great. Haven't noticed any noise but I almost aways drive with windows up and aircon on. Got mine from TJM pretty sure they are made in NZ and shipped from there.

for straight across = rail bar (assumption) do you find the clearance between the bar and the roof somewhat restrictive ?

    OR
you had not gone for railbar instead maybe flush bar or through bar. Can you recall if they were avail in other than silver ?

I got the Rhino's, too & quite happy with them. Recall seeing a noise comparision chart somewhere online & the Rhino were a close 2nd behind the Whispbar, which is aparently the quietest. Have toyed with the idea of getting a very slight arc put into the flat bars, just for a little extra clearance from the roof. As they are now, have ~25mm at the front & ~30 on the rear clearance.
Also noted, & correct me if wrong, the Rhino are rated to 80kg, but the whisbar 'appeared' to be lighter. (noticed & checked out a set on a Tiggy at the shops a couple of months ago)
Also noted, whoever puts the 'RhinoRack' stickers on the bars needs to take a little more pride in his/her work...

I only really use mine for surf boards so the lower profile bars have been just fine. They also look better in my opinion.

Pretty sure they don't have all black but the attachments are black and we have the mountain grey so they look really good on the car.

Would be interested if anyone (with sunroof and this rail bar) can confirm whether it touches when in 'tilt' mode?

I'm not sure we don't have the sun roof.

I think these may not be suitable for cars with a Sun roof.

    2nd that.
although whisper does not recommend rail bar on sunroof installed Tigs. it kinda confirms unstated.
