Retro install Bluetooth to MY11 Tiguan

Gday guys, just wondering if this is possible after delivery? I didn't get it at the time, but now would like to see if it's possible. The button is on the steering wheel... Any help would be great!

    Which kit?

    What phone are you using?

What are you expecting the kit to do?

    All very important questions.

    Yep ... definitely possible.

Actually just installed the 9w7 kit in mine last night.

Now have bluetooth audio streaming, as well as voice control via both star button and steering wheel.

Suggest checking out the audio section of this forum: VW Car Audio and Electronics

As Transporter said there's heaps of information there.

If you're doing any changes (adding a bluetooth unit) you will likely need to recode using VCDS to include the options that you have installed.

You'll also need to make sure the bluetooth unit you purchase is compatible with the multi-function display (most likely white if you have a 2011 Tig) if you want to get all functions/features working through the display and/or stereo unit.

Do your research first and then if you have questions feel free to ask as there are a number of us that have installed new head units/ bluetooth in our cars.

Had the day off and installed one 9w2 (1k8 035 730D) unit in my 08 Tiguan.
Unit works as expected ie audio streaming answer/end calls with steering wheel button.
The RCD 510 head unit also as expected does not display caller ID operator status etc but does display a small handset icon when a call is in progress. I have red MFD display however I have no telephonic displays of any kind on it is this normal on the MFD?

I have gone through the long coding options in modules 9 & 46 (convenience modules) 19 (CANbus module) 56 (radio module) and the 77 (telephone module) looking for options to enable a "telephone menu" in the MFD but to no avail. Has anybody managed to get anything up and going in the MFD with these 9w2 units?

Secondly when going through the adaption channels there is an option to make the unit visible or invisible. The default setting was invisible which I don't understand as I was able to see "VW UHV" and pair 2 mobiles with the unit with no issues. What happens if I make it visible?

CIA will then be able to track you no matter where you are.

Anyhow ... suggest you search youtube and see whether it's normal to have no telephone display on the red MFD.

My 9w7 bluetooth unit turned up on Friday so spent yesterday fitting it in.

It was a little more challenging than first anticipated as I had to remove the "old" dealer fitting bluetooth unit first. They had spliced into the wiring and added another harness which I had to "unwire" and fit back to "original" wiring in the quadlock connector on the back of the radio. This involved removing the wires and crimp connector from the connector block (easier said than done) and then connecting back up.

Also ran the bluetooth cable from the dash to underneath the drivers seat where I've installed the bluetooth unit as there wasn't enough room inside the dash to fit the larger 9w7 unit.

Was hoping that I could re-use the microphone/cable from the existing unit but turns out it was hard wired into the connector block for the old bluetooth unit. So had to pull off the trim and rerun the microphone cable also.

When I had everything connected back up, the radio powered up but VCDS would not find the bluetooth unit. VCDS coding seemed all OK (CAN gateway had item 77 - telephone enabled), however was coming up with a fault for Address 77: Telephone "Cannot be reached".

So last night I downloaded the pinouts for the RCD510 quadlock connector and bluetooth. Turns out when I had removed the housing from the bluetooth connector to route the cable under the seat I'd put it back incorrectly.

One good thing about putting the bluetooth unit under the front seat is that it was a 2 minute job to pull it out and fit the connector back in the housing correctly and then reinstall. Fortunately no harm done and when I tested it the phone came up in the MFD and once I paired my phone sucked all my contacts up.

Can scroll though my contact and make calls from MFB via steering wheel buttons OR make calls to favourites stored in RCD510.
Another successful upgrade and added bonus have sold my RCD310 and old bluetooth unit.
