Replace Tiguan tyres and warranty question?

    Hi All

I have a 2010 Tiguan and want to replace the current Dynamo tyres with 4 new tyres after 30,000km, and Tiguan is still in the first 3 years warranty period.

My question is if we replace those tyres with 4 new tyres at local tyre shop, when we send to 2nd or 3rd scheduled service at VW dealer, is there anything to do with our first 3 years VW Tiguan warranty? Any warranty related to the tyres?

If i want to do extra 2 yrs extend warranty at VW service centre, should i pay VW service centre to replace my tyres or should I still get local shop to replace tyres for me this time?

    Please help !

    Thank you.

Tyres are a wear and tear item and you won't have a warranty on them.

30k is reasonable for a set of tyres i thought.

Do you mean to say Hankook DynaPro?

Tyres are considered as consumables, so wear is not a warrantable item. Certainly, defects or manufacturing faults for OEM (factory-fit) tyres are covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty, but they'd have to occur or detect them very early, otherwise it'd be difficult to prove.

Replacement tyres are covered by the tyre manufacturer's warranty (defects, manufacturing faults, etc). Treadwear warranties for passenger tyres are common in the U.S. but not here.

It won't make a difference. Go with whoever offers you the best deal.

I imagine most dealerships outsource these things anyway. You'd be hard pressed to find a VW dealer that does them wholly in-house.

    +1. What team V said.

Fit something decent (plenty of threads about it on these forums).

Get a proper wheel alignment (Fulcrum Suspension are good)

    get thetyres rotated every 15,000km

    Thanks Diesel_vert, team_v and brad.

yes, sorry for my typo, Dynapro, and yes, lots of threads about tyre choices on this forums. I may get Pirrelli P6.

Guys my next question will be
I may replace a set of new tyres on Tiguan at local shop soon, if they did balance and wheel alignment as well, and then my 30,000KM service is due soon, so when I send my car to do service at VW service centre, does Tiguan need to do Alignment and Balance again in a such short interval? (I presume they don't have to do rotation at service this time as it is a brand new set).

rotate, balance & wheel alignment are usually extra cost items not included in the normal service price

    At the tyre shop:

    - Wheel balancing is usually included in the price of the tyres, and is not performed again unless there is a problem or until the next time you need new tyres.
    - A wheel alignment is usually optional and costs extra.

    At the dealer:

    - Wheel rotations are included as part of the service schedule. You can tell them not to carry it out, but they may not do it anyway as it should be obvious to the mechanic that the tyres are new. No harm done either way.
    - Wheel balancing and alignments are usually not carried out at the dealership, and are not part of the service schedule. Again, these are not re-done unless there is a problem.

I suggest you have your wheel alignment checked when you replace your tyres. It is a small price to pay in terms of the cost of 4 new tyres. I assume you know how to check if your alignment is noticeably out? I have done 63k on my factory fitted Bridgestones and had my alignment checked twice in 4 yrs as the roads are not that great in north qld. I anticipate getting 70k out of them and will most likely replace them with another set of Bridgestones

Wow, that's impressive K's out of a set of tyres. Care to share the make and model of the Bridgestones?

yeah get your tyres replaced where ever you want. Dealers tend to charge a premium for tyres over your local tyre store.

I know at our dealer, if wheels are rotated, the ones going to the front are always balanced.
