Question Removing Gigarette lighter (power socket ) in dash

    hello out there,
I was wondering if one of the learned gents or ladies out there,
could tell me how to remove the power socket or lighter in the front dash.
I want to access the wires to the rear of it.

Its probably really simple but i dont want to break anything, whilst trying to access it

    Thanks in advance
    Phil.

There is a little tab on the side of the rubber that sits at the back of the bin underneath the flip section where the lighter is.
Pull this to lift up the rubber bit then you should see small slots where the securing tabs for the entire plastic bin locks into .Use a small screw driver to release the tabs then gently pull out the entire assembly.
I have no photos so take some as you go and please post here.
    Good luck

If you have a manual gbox:

The centre console that has the cig lighter in it is a one piece section that runs back over the gear stick. All you have to do is pop the boot surround off your gearstick (just pull it up and it comes away easily with the 4Motion chrome surround). You'll then see 2 hex drive screws inside at the rear of the console. Unscrew them, gently pull the console up and the whole lot pops out. You can then easily access the wiring to the cig lighter and all the switches for park sensors, ESP etc. Takes about 1 minute.

If you have an auto it would have to be the same, just have to check out how the auto gear stick surround comes away from the console.

    which clips

    borbor,
i got this far and havent been able to locate tabs.

Is the white one, visible at the back of the box the one, or the tabs located in the holes where the rubber mat comes out?

Im just being cautious dont want to force anything,

i have attached photos showing the tab you mentioned.
then the empty tray and the white thing which appears to be a mushroom type
    press fitting

appreciative of the knowledge out there

You need to post your pics on a server like Photobucket before you can get them to show in here.

    Cheers
