That is a great idea! This video shows how to remove paddle shifters .. But no idea about the electrical connections availability..

I saw someone in this forum bought a SW with paddle shifter for $350 shipped. They look exactly the same as ours but with paddle shifter, it's not the GTI SW. I believe it's from Alibaba website. Apparently they are an OEM item that's manufactured in China. I will go with that route instead of retrofitting a paddle shifter.

I'm not sure if you have seen this part but surely you would need to purchase the correct steering wheel controller too in order to make use of the paddles? That is if you didn't buy the correct steering wheel?
Bold-Sport.com :: Multifunction Steering Wheel Control Unit (Paddles)
A standard controller for a non-paddle wheel looks like this......
You can see that there are no connectors in the middle as with the bold-sport part above.

Yes OK so maybe it's a $250 upgrade - best to pop out the airbag and take a look and see if you have the controller that accepts the paddles or run a full scan to see what steering wheel control module you have.
I can't remember what my steering wheel had as far as control modules - will see if I can dig up pictures or at least an old autoscan prior tothe upgrade...

Guys, I'm sorry to say that it's more than the paddles unfortunately. I've already tried.
The paddle mfsw has proper cutouts for the paddles and screw points. The standard wheel does not.
You can buy a whole wheel with the paddles for around 300-400ish, no airbag. As it is just a variant of our mfsw the airbag etc all works.
Don't get the GTI/R wheel unless you want to buy a new airbag.

OK stand to be corrected. Yes you would have to have the cutouts in the wheel for the paddles to fit so if you don't have these they won't go.
l just wonder who bold-sport sells the DSG paddles to if you can't retrofit them. Perhaps that's why they have discounted them.
Yes GTI/R wheel will set you back a lot more as you have to replace the airbag too. Should have thought of that when I was doing mine
