As soon as the warranty lapses on our 2012 103tdi im going to tune it to be at lest 140 atwkw i've got a list of things to do!
That will wake it up nicely - my brother had his 103TDI Skoda Octavia (same engine as your car) tuned by DNA Tuning in Melbourne and it made a considerable difference....heaps of torque. It really moved!

I don't have anything much to back this up - perhaps someone can confirm. However I believe there is a mechanical/component difference between the 2 engines (not just the level of tune). They both have the same capacity/displacement but the figures from a few tuners indicate that there is a decent difference in the output of the engines after tuning (unlike the 132/155TSI which end up at the same place).

You'll still be able to tune the 103TDI up to the performance of the 130TDI (and probably a little extra). Depends how long you intend to keep the car after the warranty - you may consider getting the tune sooner if you change cars reasonably regularly. If you're going to keep for 10 year then for sure wait until the warranty is over and tune it then.

So - can I flash the standard 130kW tune into my 103kW? That would a significant benefit, especially since its been a long time since my Tiguan has generated 103kW

I agree, don't wait till warranty is over. Give a new car 6-12 months and 20,000km, this allows a bit of time for faults (if any are there) to show up.

How ever, don't tune the hell out of it if you want to keep it for 10 years and don't want to have too many repairs. Unless you drive no more than 5,000km per year, you will be killing the drive train too fast with the excessive torque that the car was never designed to pass through.

Of course some may disagree with the above and say, "I have my TDI tuned for years and done well over 100,000km, so it's all good the drive train can handle it". Well, that's your TDI from years ago and it may not be valid today.

No. Your VW dealer won't be able to do this as the VIN/engine code will say it's a 103TDI and will only allow them to put the updates in for this engine. This is to stop technicians accidentally installing the wrong file in and causing damage.

Same deal with the 132/155TSI is that you can't install the 155kW file into a 132TSI. Don't worry I've asked the same thing!!!

So you'll have to go down the aftermarket tune route if you want to increase the output.

103TDI and 130TDI does not have the same engine. Multiple differences ....... you cannot use the 130TDI's ECU software on the 103TDI. Look through the Passat and Golf sections for differences between the 103 and the 125TDIs (130 is essentially just a slighty upgraded 125)

You can however aftermarket tune the 103TDI to make the same power as a 130TDI ...... so if you need more, I'be investigating those options.

Found this on one of the "other" forums:

I would have no hesitation to chip it up, but yes, you are risking your warranty. A lot of dealers have their own in house warranty, and will gladly chip the car for you at point of sale, and offer their own, lesser warranty on it.
So yes there's quite a few differences between the 103TDI and 130TDI.

Thats ok, all those parts that are different i was going to upgrade anyway, basically this is what ill be doing after the warranty finishes...

    -EGR delete
    -DPF delete
    -turbo and cooling upgrades
    -injectors
    -slight intake and exhaust mods

ill then get it a nice and safe tune as long as it gets 0-100 in under 7 secs ill be happy!
