Hi
I have the 2012 TSI 2.0 132KW Tig with the Tiptronic 6 speed automatic tranny and have a question about it when its running along with the revs low in the range (about 1500rpm) in any gear and a gradual load comes on either through an increase in gradient or slight throttle increase which causes the RPMs to rise without downshifting the gear. If the load is sudden or the throttle opening quick or significant it will kick down rapidly as expected and the revs obviously increase to the right level. At higher revs it doesn't seem to happen.. over 2500, it seems to accelerate in the same gear pretty normally.

But its that low level increase in load that often cause the revs to pick up about 500 rpm for an interval (without kicking down) and obviously the speed picks up until it is operating at the right revs for the speed.. I haven't spent much time with this kind of auto having had lots of manuals and then a DSG golf TDI for 110000km.

I would describe it as the same symptom as a slipping clutch but because it an auto I imagine the torque converter is unlocking and preventing the engine from lugging while it spins up the turbo.

Is this normal operation

Thanks, Chris
