Query: Towbar fitting in Melbourne for MY2013 Tig

Hi All - I'd like to have a towbar fitted to my 2012 (MY2013) Tig and am looking for a place in Melbourne to do it (eastern suburbs ideally) and the approximate cost (including the towbar). I'm not particularly interested in the VW dealer option as it's too expensive.

I'd like a hitch style towbar where the tongue can be removed and am not interested in the lighter duty 'DIY' options that I've seen on ebay.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Simon

Contact a Hayman Reece agent to get a an Aussie compliant towbar. Be aware that some of their towbars are rated higher than the vehicles recommended capacity which remains the limit allowed, despite the bar being higher.

Query: Towbar fitting in Melbourne for MY2013 Tig

What are you intending on using the tow bar for?

I know this may seem like a stupid question but sometimes there are other solutions for carrying bikes and possibly using roof racks if items aren't too heavy.

Also things to consider are if you have rear park sensors/park assist and if this is going to be compatible with whatever wiring that gets done to your car.

Have a search as I know there a few threads discussing this topic already.

Thanks tigger73. I'm planning on towing a trailer. I have noted some comments from forum users regarding the benefit of solutions that hook into the car's computer to adjust its setup. Ideally that would be my preferred solution but I'm not wedded to it if it's overly expensive. Still searching to find some recommended options in Melbourne's east.
    Cheers

Yes reversing a trailer with reverse sensors going ballistic is not my idea of fun... and not sure if there is a way of disabling them either when you're towing (that's what the factory system should do if it recognises you have a trailer hooked up).

Keep us posted on what you find out and what option you eventually go with.

Dealer towbar is about $1500, Hayman-Reece towbar is about $1000 without disabling the reverse sensors and some risk to the electronics.
In the end I decided it was too hard and too expensive for a once or twice a year trailer haul, and either hire a ute or borrow a car with trailer.

Thanks all for your responses. I understand from a brief email conversation with an auto parts supplier that the VW towing kit something has changed with either the towbar or wiring set-up between the previous and current model Tig and that as a result the vw tow kit (VGA803921TIG08 TOWBAR + 5N2055204 WIRING) won't work for a 2012-2013 (i.e. current shape) Tig. Has anyone got any info to confirm that and the reason why?

Tigger73 - there is a button on my Tig to turn on or off the sensors so reversing with a trailer shouldn't be a noisy hassle - hopefully!

    Electrics may have changed.

See your local VW dealer about the availability of one for the current model. I'm certain they'll have the answer, because pretty much every second Tiguan ever sold had a towbar fitted.
