    Smile Park Assist Query

    Hello All,

I understand that parking distance sensor comes with Park Assist. Will the sensors be active (i.e. give out warning beeps when the car is too close to an object) even if Park Assist is not activated?

Another question unrelated to Park Assist is what is the reasonable amount of deposit should I pay to order a Tiguan? In my case, I have to put my order through the leasing company and according to the dealership it will takes some time to finalise the paper work, plus to order a Tiguan with my options, it will take approximately 4 months. So to get the ball rolling, he suggested that I should put down a deposit so that he start the order process.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Hey mate.

I can only your Park Assist question as I have the PA in my Tig.

When you put the Tig in reverse the sensors automatically activate. If you want to manually activate the sensors there is a button to do so in the center consol. The same button can be used to manually turn the sensors off. The sensors will automatically disable as soon as you go over 40km/h (I think... may be slightly slower). When you turn on Park Assist (the button to do so is located right near the parking sensor button) the parking sensors automatically engage.

Hope that's clear and helps. Basically, the Tig is smart enough to know when it needs to turn the sensors on, and will automatically turn them off when it assumes you don't need them. But you can manually override the car smarts by using the button.

    Hello Arctra,

Thanks for the clarification. Do you think PA is worth it? I seldom do parallel parking (usually park head-on or reverse) and I will be ordering 147TSI, so it comes with reverse sensor.

    Thanks again.

I'm glad I got it as I've used it several times to get into spaces I would normally struggle with as they're tight. The sensors on the front are very useful, especially considering the restricted turning circle (compared to my old Bora anyway) makes parking in tight parkings more of a challenge.

I'd think of it like this: if it's going to save you scraping the paint, or denting the vehicle just once it's probably paid itself off. Now given my girlfriend isn't the most confident driver around, IMO it has been worth it.

It takes a bit of practice to get used to using the PA. I was very frustrated at first but now that I've used it a while I know what to do, and more importantly, when to do it.

    Hello Arctra,

Thanks for the very quick. I think I will include it in my option then.

Now the only thing I have to deal with is the 4 month wait

    Hi XTiguanX

Regarding your question on deposit. I went through the lease company so I paid $1000 deposit and placed the order. Once my tig was delivered I was given an option to get the check refunded for the deposit($1000) or direct deposit. Because lease company pay the actual amount of the car.

Another note on the deposit, I too went through lease company but I just paid $100 deposit and that was taken of the finance cost, total finance was $100 less the driveaway price.

The dealer wanted $1000 but it is not required.

    Cheers

I hope you gave them a cheque and not a check!

Depends where you are in the world, the NA's use the word "check" where the English (including NZ, Ausi etc) use "cheque". Just another one of those "things" !! Remember the American speak and write "American" NOT English !!
