Umm-ing & ahh-ing... Contemplating & budgeting... I'm most likely to use my Tig for some soft-roading in the future, as well as some tame-ish off-roading too... With that in mind, i probably shouldn't contemplate wheels larger than 18", yeah? Thoughts?
Also, the quality of the stock 16's? I just noticed today that 3 of my wheels have 4 x balancing weights, while 1 has 8! Is that excessive?

If you are planning some off-road trips, i would stick with the 16's or 17's at most due to sidewall height and cost.

And this is exactly the reason to keep your stock wheels when you are upgrading. It allows you to fit the stock wheels on for a long and/or offroad trip and the nice "performance" wheels when you're back home

I can fit my stock wheels in 30mins myself at home if need be for dirt road usage or a long distance trip. The large sidewalls provide extra comfort on long trips and extra protection on dirt roads .....

Good advice, guys... Am currently a city-dweller but planning on a move (back) to the country (gravel/beach/exploring) in a year or so. A set of wheels for both on & off road makes a lot of sense!

    Hi peoples!
Off looking at alternative rims tomorrow, basically just 'window shopping', but ya never know...
So much to think of, just after some advice on an offset & width range i should be working within to narrow down some options... Also load rating, is this a variable on the Tig? I am kind of favouring a set of 19x8 ET40's atm, help/advice/opinions please!

FWIW, I can only recommend the wheels that were previously on my short list.

    RS6 Replica:

    RS4 Replica:

But if you've got a bit more dough to spend:

VMR wheels (which cost about $1,400 USD shipped)

And my choice would be V701s FTW: VMR Wheels V701 18" Gunmetal on Volkswagen VW Tiguan | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Definitely the Audi reps above come in your size preference. Whereas, 19" VMRs only come 8.5" wide.

Personally, I think 19" represent a good balance between looks and comfort for the Tig.

But I've found tyre selection with a decent enough sidewall (i.e. 45) a bit limited.

If VW/Audi Reps are your thing, then actually the range of designs, sizes and finishes available in Australia is quite limited.

But if you source straight from the manufacturers in China (as I have with my S5 Reps on page 8 of this thread), then there's a lot more to choose from.

    Here's one example: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B4H...thkey=CJzF5PoG
