    Noisy Rotors?

    hey All,

okie doke, does anyone else have noisy rotors? like under light breaking theres a slight grinding noise.

I have bought it up with my dealer, but was told there's abit of surface rust on my rotors which under driving should scrub off.

Which leads me to my next question does anyone have rotors that seem to rust really easily? As when i dropped my car off to the dealer it was after about 45 minutes of warming up and giving it a good thrashing before handing it over. Which presumably should have 'scrubbed' the rust off by then.

Also noticed my rotors rusting after a good wash whilst waxing any ideas? i'm leaning towards warrenty issue with my rotors. If it helps its a 2011 Tiguan

    Thanks

Going out on a limb here, but would say normal, too (for VW...) I know the sound you are talking of. For me, the excellent brakes on these cars must come at a cost, & that is rotors & pads that wear out relatively quickly. Probably even quicker still for those with auto's & not able to utilize engine braking.
My rotors will show a rusty colour after a wash as well, disappears after a lap around the block!

after a wash, completely normal for most cars..... most rotors (if not all) have a high carbon content which gives you the following formula: high carbon + H20 + some oxygen = rust!!

As mentioned previously, a lap around the block, problem solved.

It can't be worst than our Touareg. The brakes were noisy almost every morning until I replaced the std discs with the slotted one. No more noise.

Our 2010 Tiguan has so far quiet brakes.

hrmmm.... i guess good to know that its normal??

ive just never seen rotors gather rust so quickly... like don't get me wrong i'm no noob been detailing cars for around 8 years now, not on a pro level, but seen my fair share of cars but never detailed a VW till i got my own and i have never seen rust gather so quickly.

Surely that cant be good for a long term reliability wise.

My wife's Suzuki Swift gets so much rust that we have to drive it around to dry the discs after washing it or it gets "locked up" on the rear discs just sitting in the garage, you go to back out of the garage and it won't move, you have to move forward to break the bond before you can reverse it.

wow... i just find that so bizarre.

to me rust is a sign of issues, and understandable when brakes rust if theyve been sitting around for a while, but within 30 mins is just insane IMO. i'm surprised there isnt a standard or something that manufacturers need to comply with...i guess as long as they stop you in time is all that matters.
