    Newbie Tiguan owner

    Hi Guys,
I've just had the pleasure of picking up my new Candy White Tiguan 118 Tsi (Friday). My wife already has a MY11 Polo, so I was impressed by the VW build quality.

I have a couple of questions (no doubt the start of many)

First, coming from almost a lifetime of driving Automatics I thought it would be fun to drive a manual. I realized now how rusty I am. My first two cars were 4 speed manuals (umm..showing my age) and the 6 speed manual on the Tiguan has made me miss-shift a couple of times....say, going from second and into fifth. I know with practice I will get better but I'm hoping I'm not doing any damage to the engine or gearbox.

Second, the Auto function on the lights switch, is it recommended to to leave it on Auto and let the sensors dictate when lights are switched on? I presume daytime running light come on automatically in low light conditions whether in Auto or 0 position...is that correct?

    Cheers!

Hi, congrats on the new purchase.

The day time running lights will stay on until hi beams come on. In the vehicle settings you can turn the day time running lights on or off. The DRL are not controlled by the light sensor.

As for the gear box I'm sure there's plenty of room for error

    Welcome to the forum!
...and congratulation on your new Tig. To answer your question, if you do any damage to the gearbox when you don't change the gears smoothly; as long as you don't let the clutch slip too often, don't crunch the gears and don't let the foot of the clutch pedal too fast, the car will be OK. Just keep in mind that the flywheel is DMF ( dual mass flywheel) and doesn't like the slips. I'm sure you will improve very quickly.

congratulations on the new purchase....I can't wait to join this group of Tig owners

Re the Daylight Running Lights, are these the same as the ones found on the Audis? I like the fact that the DRL dims when the indicator light turns on and then resumes full luminescence once the indicator light goes off. Would kill to get my hands on the tiguan manual.

    Hi, me again....

Just found out that the MDI Adapter supplied in my Tiguan has a USB port and is not compatible with an iPod cable.

So, I figure, I would need to buy a cable with iPod connectors,

which I found one on ebay, and just wanted to know what others thought of it?... $19 with free standard shipping to oz!

    Welcome on board !

Yes, the MDI cable from Ebay should suffice. I purchased mine for $30 AUD a few months back prior to receiving my Tiggy. They all do the same thing, but obviously check the seller's feedback to see if they sell good quality products.

Just curious, can RCD310 control all music functions in an iphone 4G through this cable, ie. browse by song/artist from steering wheel control? I recall there is something the cable would not do......

Obviously the phone function goes via the Bluetooth, does the music go through the cable if attached? If so, will it sound better than the Bluetooth streaming?
