XDL electronic differential lock? Sounds like it does what the guys that have put in the new Haldex controller are claiming... ?

    Maybe the same thing?

When you push a car with XDL through a twisty road, you will end up with some really hot smelly brakes - this has been proven

XDL applies braking force to the inside front wheel to prevent understeer, however it comes at the expense of your brakes/pads. Whereas the Haldex upgrade actually pushes the power through to the rear wheels to overcome the understeer that way.

Handling-wise they will perform in a similar fashion, however from a wear and tear point of view the Haldex is probably still the better alternative. Though if the car comes with XDL I'm not sure you'd benefit from the Haldex upgrade unless you turned the XDL (traction control) off.

Yes if you're too early on the gas it will understeer and XDL will come into play. It's a good safety feature, however for spirited drives it's going to prematurely wear out the brakes I suspect.

So it means turning off traction control to disable XDL but then that kind of defeats the purpose. So you end up back at AWD and an upgraded Haldex controller for 50/50 power distribution through the twisties

So it's still got the Mk6 Golf interior and 1.4l twin charged engine? I'm struggling to see why this is called 'new'

Yes it's a bit like déjà vu jumping into a MY15 Tig. It's the same interior and exterior just added a few items as standard features (RVC/RCD510, trims, seats), include a body kit and delete bi-xenons and manual option (only available in entry level 118tsi). The major change is adding the 130TDI engine to the lineup.

So this is VWA's attempt to try to keep sales going until the new model arrives in 2016. It would have been more interesting if they had dumped in the MQB engines but it may not be that easy.
