No new Tiguan just MY updates as usual

VW must just use 'New' in advertising because its a new name and product here and I guess they want potential customers to know its new and fresh and different.
    Thanks, Phaet.

But we should note that the Tig has been around for 12 months in this market so VGA is really having a lend if they think they can still call it new, cos it aint. It's the sort of conduct the ACCC finds interesting . . .

Just checked the US Brochure - it advertises LED stop Lamps, but maybe they're talking about the high rise stop lamp:

    :LED Technology
The stop lamp is illuminated using Light Emitting Diodes that light up instantly and shine brighter,
to help keep your backside optimally visible and out of harm’s way. Plus they use less power, for a
59% longer life span than traditional bulbs.

I wonder if there is a time period for when dealers have to stop calling a new model, new?

If you want to give your Tiguan a facelift, have a look at the Hella catalog. It includes lights not found on Aus models as standard. Hella is the OEM supplier and has some interesting alternatives.

    For instance:

    Blackened headlights, blackened taillights etc.

supply issue is one of major reasons why VW did not advertise Tiguan before. My sales manager in Barloworld told me they were prohibited to advertise Tiguan by VWA. (Interestingly, if you scrutinize one of the new Golf ads in NSW, you will find Barloworld dealership details at the end of ad. Does that suggest it is Barloworld rather than VWA makes the ad?)

And I agree with phaeton that VW just wants more potential customers to explore this "NEW" model in VW family as they never advertised before.

Even as of today, few Tiguan were seen on street, and there were once two hot girls cried out "OMG, it's VW new Tiguan" when I drove pass by

As much as VGA might want more customers to be attracted to its Tiguan ads online, VGA, like all other companies, is still proscribed under the Trade Practices Act from making false or misleading claims.

If there is no "New Tiguan" (and there's no mention of a new Tiguan on VGA's website), then VGA should not refer to it as "new".

The online ads left me with the impression that a new Tiguan had been released when this is not in fact the case.

    More attention-grabbing? Yes.

In breach of s52 (TPA)? Probably.

tiguan has had a radio upgrade, I can't find any pictures but they have done away with the horrible silver face and from what i could see - the buttons are now on the bottom.

V2 satnav software is also out - best compared with 2009 garmin mapping - you'll pay for this one.

A major software update for the RNS510 is due for release in June/July - no "formal" information is out yet, but VWA know about it.

Just out of interest, when does something stop being new? Is there a statutory period?

I always just assumed that a manufacturer can advertise any product it releases, as 'new' - until such time that another model comes out that replaces it.

Not quite sure why everybody's getting their knickers in a twist over this ? I suspect it would only take minor changes (such as are being made all the time) in order for a firm to dodge any of the advertising police out there. I suspect the reality is that, as here in NZ, they ran out of stock early and delayed planned advertising until that position changed. Hardly a hanging offense is it ?
