So you're that bastard that outbid me then! I saw them and thought it was worth putting a small bid on them. Good for you.

You're lucky you got the extra's too. Wish they'd been that nice to me. Which dealer as a matter of interest?

Enjoy your first run when you do go out. I'm guessing a nice out-of town drive is on the cards for this weekend?

Hehe, sorry about that. You ought to get aquainted with an auction sniper! Also he had roof bars but some loon got them for $200 when you can get new ones for $270...

Got it from Barloworld Five Dock. Overall quite happy with the experience, only a slight hiccup which I have described elsewhere here.

Might head out to Wiseman's Ferry on Sunday. Still working out where I'm going to let the dog sit!

Arctra, I'd be keen to check out your AVC-9000 some time too.

Yeah, I saw the roof bars too, but I already managed to score myself an original set a while ago so wasn't interested in those.

On our first weekend outing we went Wisemans Ferry, up to Singleton, then back via Putty Rd. It's a good run to do first up I reckon, as you get to load the engine a bit with the hills and bends. That, and it's a nice drive.

I'm happy to give you a rundown of the AVC-9000 sometime. I'm pretty booked up this coming weekend, but next weekend I have free time (at this stage). You live quite close to me so it should be easy enough to meet up. I'll PM you my number.

Back seat of course!!! He can't go in the boot!!!!
Pick up a back seat sling... you know one of the seat covers that cover the entire back seat -and also the back of the front seats.

I think I grabbed my black one really cheaply in some Reject style shop!
Means he doesn't mess with my leather - but has the whole back seat to himself!

Now all I have to do is work out how to stop the slobbering on the rear passenger doors and windows?!?!!

Can I have some confirmation that I am running in the engine right?

I've read all the threads about running in the diesel but I feel like I'm caning it. While warming up revving it to max 2800 and when warm reving to max 3800. Not holding it there but in fairly sharp bursts. Also going down the gears when stopping using engine braking and letting the revs go up.

I'm usually a fairly sedate driver and feel like I'm quickly going to lose my licence driving like that! I reckon I could quite happily toddle around with this engine going under 2000rpm.

This topic can get heated, and I think there are some older threads discussing it.

Yes, you possibly could toddle around at under 2000rpm, but your DPF (Deisel Particulate Filter) would then clog up quicktime. There's a thread in the Deisel section of a Skoda TDI owner that's been having DPF clogging issues for this very reason. You need to get the turbo kicking in (approx 2000rpm and above) to get the DPF up to temp to burn off the soot.

If you aren't entirely comfortable getting the revs that high at first, then the engine breaking down hills is your best way of loading the engine and preventing bore glazing.

While the car is cold, if you don't want to take it to 2800 then that probably isn't a problem, but once it is warm, you really shouldn't be too concerned about it. I have taken the needle to the red line (momentarily) a couple of times and she's been fine. I still haven't used any oil (not noticeable on the dipstick anyway) so I haven't done any serious damage.

Oil burners like to work, so don't be afraid to make it work. Baby it at your own peril IMO.

Me thinks a DPF deleted Tiguan would be an awesome idea.
Allows you to idle around but also gives you 160kw or so on tap if you need it.

Arctra is spot on though from what i have read.
Let it over 2kRPM to allow enough heat to burn off the soot and stop the DPF clogging up.

I agree. They wouldn't put the red line where they did, if they only wanted you to rev it to 2,500rpm!

It was design to work properly and safely all throughout the rev range!

    Enjoy your country drive!

I take my Polo TDI to the red line every single day of its life (obviously dont drive everywhere at 4500rpm though!)

they need to be revved out, so don't be afraid.

for the record, I havent had any engine probs in 75,000kms and the engine is chipped too. I drive it sedately until its warm and then give it a work out in the first couple of gears every now and again.

Don't baby a new engine, drive it like you stole it!
