Same with most models We have a Polo and on the Contract there is an entry for Build Date and Compliance date.
So if you still have the purchase papers it possibly will be on there.
We had same problem with insurance as they said a 2010 build Polo is more expensive to insure than a 2011.
Dont see why same thing really Maybe more DSG problems with the earlier one???????
The Build date is on the B Pillar sticker on both my Polo and the Passat

According to Redbook the MY10 model was released in October 2009 and the DSG transmissions came out after that in 2010.

Sounds like the insurance company is just picky on the model year.
I queried what they said and was told it was the build date that mattered, not the compliance or any other date.
Redbook isnt always right anyway. They have same year build for both 2010 and 2011 vehicles

I'm told insurance actually goes up in the first few years. I guess people don;t crash their brand new car as often
