Ryan_R - you da man! Thanks for the advice. yes, flicking the high beam on inside the car park momentarily turns the beam on and then off. I open the door and presto, the headlights stay on. I lock the car, the headlights still remain on and automatically turn off after 30 secs.

It's a shame that VW don't program this as a standard. Why do I need to flick the high beam on at night to activate the "Coming Home" feature. It should be software driven via the MFD as standard. Anyways, thanks for the advice. I was on the verge of taking the car into the dealership to investigate. Now I know it actually does work, but needs some user intervention to get it happening. Wonder if everyone else knew about this? It doesn't mention it anywhere in the User Manual!!

The warning message appears in the MFD display the moment i take the key out of the ignition.

I'm sure I've read it in my manual, but never used it until I fiddled with VCDS. It's been asked/answered on the forums before as well.

The reason you need to flick the high beams to activate the coming home feature is that owners of older models got sick of people saying "you have left your lights on" every time they locked their cars in darkness. Now thankfully you can choose quite easily to activate it or not.

Hehe, I've had that about 5 or 6 times. I just say 'they're automatic - doesn't your car do that as well?'

Another quick round of unlock/lock on the remote will de-activate the coming home function on the older model cars.

Would have to agree that the present system is hardly intuitive.

But so are many things about the Tig, like the spring loaded bonnet which automatic lifts up, after you prod it up with a metal rod.

I suppose I'd rather somewhat unintuitive features than no features to begin with.
