    Hmmm Underneath the petrol Tiguan is the GTI motor, Golf R drivetrain and gearbox from TT-RS. Excuse my ignorance but I understand GTI motor and the concept of Golf R drivetrain..... but gearbox from TT-RS? What's special about gearbox from TT-RS?? Is it DSG? and excempt from DSG issues like other VW DSG's?

    The TT-RS was the first car in the VAG group to use the higher rated DQ500 7 speed DSG gearbox. They now use this DQ500 DSG in the high end sports (TT-RS) and the high load applications (Tiguan, Multivan, Transporter). It has a higher torque rating(600Nm) compared to the 7 speed DQ200 (low power petrol) or 6 speed DQ250 (diesel, GTI, R, 118TSI Tiguan) DSG gearboxes.

    This means that if you do increase the output in the petrol Tiguan, you're going to be well within the limits of the gearbox. The DQ500 is a lot more bullet-proof than either of the other 2 DSG gearboxes (get it right on the 3rd attempt). It also has 1st gear and Reverse on opposite sides of the gearbox so that you can shift from reverse into D and the gearbox will seamlessly shift into 1st and not have a delay.

    I'm not going to say it's perfect. It still does have some DSG "quirks" and the stock programming is perhaps not set up perfectly for day-to-day driving but all in all it does work pretty well.

    my father has an r36 with launch control. not sure if he has used it yet.... im not allowed to drive it


    for any mods ill have to send it to someone. my range of tools now extends to an allen key from ikea and a $4.95 mini hammer from woolworths.

    but even unchipped it has more power than the xv. (but it is a little heavier)

    The xvs seems to have more inclusions as standard (sunroof, heated seats, mfd etc) but i guess it comes down to handling and zippiness.

    do you think it is worth spending the extra for the 155 for zip and styling or go for the 132?

    If you're going to chip it then they both end up at around the same place so I'd save the $ and go for the 132.

    sorry with subaru , ive never had a bad dealing with vw all the times ive owned and dealt with them i had a polo with some work to it and acaddy and now the tiguan.. yes you get more inclusion with the xv but the nav system has issues with up grades and the the lower profile tyres used on them are to high performance to work on even the smoothest of dirt roads ...i found the tiguan to be smoother or a dirt road i drove both on however i have not driven the tiguan as much off road as i did the xv onkt due to time frame.. as for power i believe and its only my belief the tiguan 132 has more power and drive than the 2.0 subaru motor .. mine was the auto with paddle shift .. the modal tiguan i have is only the tdi 103 and apart from a little lag it seems to drive just as switfly as the xv did so your choice should be better ..

    does chipping it affect warranty?

    sorry about your subie experience ive been using subie waitara for 9 years now and theyve been awesome. they actually refused to service my car and told me to buy a new one coz it was a waste of money. a much better experience than ive had the odd time i went to denlo.

    snow is a big thing for me. the main reason i want awd is so i can be a princess and not get cold and wet having to fit chains! and so i can drive like a maniac in the rain.

    if snow is the main offroadinf type driving then id still say a tiguan and maybe you can have extra set of ats yoko tyres for it and snow would never be a problem with the xv you cant get any tyre but a performance tyre

    Sure it can effect your warranty - it's the risk you take. Though if there are recalls or issues not related to the engine/drivetrain they can't void your total warranty. You can take your vehicle to independents for servicing and the car won't be flagged with VW as being modified. If there are ever any issues, you can remove the tune before getting warranty work done. Though I believe there may still be ways for VW to tell if you car has ever been chipped. That is the risk you take. It's the same with your insurance - though there are insurers that will insure modified cars.

    hmmn food for thought. im such a scardey cat that id probably wait till warranty was over before chipping it.

    I am enjoying your build thread tigger73. and i do giggle every time i read flappy paddles. i dont know why. i think theyre just paddles and the flappy bit just makes me laugh. particularly as i imagine you are a grown man saying it and it sounds like something a kid (or I) would say!

    Yes well I tuned mine after I'd put 30,000km on it and had it checked over and any warranty items sorted. Typically if you're going to have a problem with a new car it will rear it's head early on in its life. It's a trade-off and will also depend on how long you intend to keep the car too. I use mine for work and drive higher mileage and will turn my cars over regularly so I'll typically move a car on every 3-4 years.

    Yes the "flappy" part is pretty funny really but that's what they're called - not sure where the name came from

    Thanks for the info Tigger73.
    So lots of MK6 Golf suitable for tuning a Tiguan... great stuff.
    I am considering a good used Tiguan TDI 4 Motion with Automatic 6 speed. I have my own reasoning for this choice. I now have aging parents, one refuses to get into the Polo.
    Perhaps the Diesel is more economical and the auto more reliable than a DSG? auto maybe easier in our suburban gridlock and I did read that the auto is better suited off the sealed tarmac. I am certain it will ride better than my N9 Polo Gti. The interiors look quite accommodating.

    I suppose there are local vendor ECU upgrades for the TDI 'just like a Golf'? .... Gav are you reading this?

    Wheel and tyre combinations are they very limited by 'SUV' ADR laws?

    Brakes seem a weak point, is there simple upgrades like slotted rotors that solve some issues?
