    Leather seats...

This waiting thing is not good for me!

I have ordered a 103TDI, a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get leather seats but the more time I have to think about it the more I'm talking myself into it... I have small children so it really makes sense (see I'm doing it again), I just baulked at the price tag.

Does anyone know whether you can fiddle with options after you've ordered a car?

It's not due to be built until July, and I don't want to stuff it up and have to wait even loooooonnnnnnngggggggger.

I guess I could call the dealer, but I don't like talking to them thought I'd get an opinion from here first

I would get the leather seats especially with kids. Just make sure it's the black and not cream. I guess as long as they haven't started building the car it should be fine. It's still about 5 weeks away! The only other thing is that I won't expect them to be discounting anything i.e. $4000 full price.

    Thumbs up

I am indifferent to leather seats ordinarily, but we got leather with our Tig and I must say I'm impressed. They seem very good quality. Not cold when you sit on them when it's cold, and not scoulding when you sit on them after being in the sun. And the bum-heaters are a bit of a treat too

My mate has a little 1 year old and leather is the only way to go according to him. From a cleaning up perspective it sounds like the best option, and now I can see why. The pricetag is hefty though, so I can appreciate you baulking at the option.

    Tiguan TDI, 6spd Tiptronic Auto
Black, sunroof, comfort pack, off-road tech, tan leather, park assist & roof bars.
    Avg 7.63L/100km over 189,000kms

At $4K they are so expensive, but the electric seat is a bonus. My wife has a Golf V with leather seats and the quality of my Tiguan leather looks superior and the seats are much more comfy and hold you better. Just keep em conditioned with a cleaner/conditioner all in one application. The Meguires one is good.

Another to consider is that when you get the leather seat option you also get a little tray under the front passenger's seat to keep your valuables. You also get the option to fold the front passenger seat completely flat. This helps a lot if you have something long to cary such as a ladder, surf board etc

My Tiguan is my first leather seats (here in NZ the "luxury pack" includes leather plus RCD510 plus roof storage (if you don't have sunroof) for NZ$5,000) and I just LOVE them. We get a lot of frosty days here in Winter and the heated leather is just YUMMY !!!

    Cheers

Just a thought for you, there are some very good after market upholsterers that specialise in new vehicle leather trimming that will do the job for much less than the OEM price. Plus you get to chose more than just black or cream.

I for one always get leather seats...
I have them in my new Tiguan. Made very well, extremely comfortable, and in my car (147TSI) you get the under seat drawers, and the little tables for the back seat passenger.

I have always gone for genuine / factory fitted leather seats -and always will.
I don't care what they cost.

For me, and especially for my dog, leather is much better than cloth.

I totally agree! Mind you the expense is a 10% premium on the base cost so not all can afford. My kids hate leather and prefer velour in my previous car but cloth now is so hard you may as well go the subtleness of leather and yes they are top quality and extremely comfortable, well done VW.Also you get Heated SEATS!!! Much better than 2008 Passat seats (yuk). I realise the 147KW TSI have extra drawers under the front seats, do you think I could order the parts and fit them to a TDI model with leather seats? Extra storage is always a must. Still dissappointed nowhere to put the Melways Street Directory.

I forgot about the heated seats - and WOW - was playing with the settings last night!

As for trying to order the under seat drawers... I have read in a couple of places they were only available on the 147TSI... but having said that bother aspects of the brochures are wrong... so who knows?!?!
    Even so though - they won't fit a Melways I don't think!

They are a good size, quite deep - but when I did my initial inspection aren't A4 size.
