Check that it doesn't have a protective plastic film on top of the chrome. My guess is the guys doing pre-delivery/detailing the car left these on.

Always will pay more for genuine mate. You can get it alot cheaper if you go aftermarket like hayman reese etc. All just depends on what you would like to do . NO fitting a aftermarket towbar will NOT effect your vehicle warranty (unless the installer is a brain dead monkey who screws up the install)

The dealer won't fit a towbar to the R-Line (or mine won't anyway) and it's shown as not being an option in the brochure and on the VW website for the R-Line. My 130TDI with R-Line pack is on the 'Glorious Leader' and I should be getting it in early March. I'll be looking to get a hayman reese bar for the bike carrier and occasional trip to the tip. Be keen to know how you get on romaniac if you get yours before then.

Ended up ordering the towbar, picking up the car late next week. You can get the towbar for the r-line now, it's been out in the UK for a while and VW have brought it out for Australia too. My dealer is fitting mine prior to delivery. Not happy with $1900 but at least its genuine VW and my car is rated to tow 2200kg plus my boat is close to 2,000kg so want to be safe.

Hey romaniac - I checked with my dealer again today and they're still telling me that for the R-Line there's no Australian fitment towbar that is compliant. Any chance of a part number and even a photo when you get yours on? Do you know if it's like the swing out towbar they have in the UK or the standard concealed fit towbar?

I don't think it's from my cleaning chemicals as it is only on the trim at the base of the window the rest are fine, only washed once before I spotted this. I only ever use the Auto Glym wash and wax (used by the queen herself) will be taking back to dealer on Monday for them to have a look at it. There isn't a protective film over it either, they said they will try polish it out and if no good will replace. I only ever wash my cars with good product.

I will take some pics of it when I pick it up Thursday night and post them.
