Pretty simple really, you tell them if you dont qualify for the promo, you walk to another brand. You hold the funds, you hold the power & never forget to remind them of that.

    So in the continuing saga....

I spoke to VW head office and asked them their opinion on the case, they stated that there is no official policy regarding registering cars as demonstrators and that there is no policy on the amount of KM's that can be on a car and still be sold as new. I scoffed at that and recounted the salesman's story that he was waiting for an official desk from VW Germany as they control everything in the dealers down to the last detail - how is it that there is no official policy which dealers must comply with on KM's? They took my name and number and said they will call me back.

The dealer called and said that actually the car has 387 kms on the clock and the build date could be 2012, he was waiting for confirmation of that. I told him to stick it and that we didn't want the car, he apologised and was very nice about it all and offered us a few other cars with the same options (just not the same colour - it seems Cherry Red is a hard colour to get a hold of).

Frustrating, I've asked him to check stock of the Titanium Beige as that was my second preference and am waiting on a call back.

Okay so there were no Titanium Beige cars in stock either.

Finally it seems I'll have to accept the Red one with the 300 odd kms on the clock as that's the colour my mum wants (the car is for her), the dealer agreed to pay for the first service (not the first first one, that's free anyway).

Not entirely happy but I have softened a little bit and blame the dealer I'm talking to a bit less and VW and the dealer they were getting the car from in Victoria a little more.

It still might be the last vehicle I buy from Peter Warren Campbelltown VW unless I get the car quick smart and there are no further issues with it.

I spent a lot of time considering a Tiguan. Test drove a number of them, but came to the conclusion that paying $50k for a Tiguan just didn't add up. They just don't feel like $50k+ cars, more like $30k cars. Did any of you guys consider buying a car that's 2-3 years old for the same amount. That way you can get a $90k car that's depreciated, for $50k yet it still feels, looks and drives like a $90k car.

I also got really turned off by the VW dealers. They all sprouted the same garb:
    - trying to sell me the year model based on compliance date vs build date.
    - telling me "there is only one left in the country"
    - telling me "there's one coming on the boat, but you need to secure to TODAY!"

    All bollocks.

It might not be applicable here, but when I was looking at buying a Tiguan last month, the deal was on-roads AND first three services for free as part of their campaign to encourage people into VWs (as well as getting the five year DSG warranty). This was supposed to expire at the end of August.

What are the chances of getting a 103 TDI Pacific for around $35-36k during the current sale? Or am I pushing it too low?

Depends where the car is coming from and what colour/options you're looking to include.

If the dealer has to freight the car in, this obviously impacts on what the car costs them.

Check there are no conditions on the sale to say when it has to be delivered by as it may only relate to vehicles currently in stock. Then you'll have to go hunting for the colour and options.

You may be able to get a better deal if it is in the dealers stock.

Looking to buy a white 103 TDI Pacific in Sydney that the dealer has in stock during the current sale. Vehicle has no options. What is a guide for a drive away price? Thanks.
