depending on where you are intending to drive and how the roads are around you the 18s might give you a bit of a harsher ride...

Have only done 2 days of driving, but I have found the 18's to give a firm ride without being at all uncomfortable.

There are usually two other factors besides rim size: the profile and the hardness of the tire compound.

The Tiguan still has relatively thick sidewalls with 18". And the supplied tires may have softer compounds. Just try to avoid Bridgestone tires. I found their designs have very very hard materials.

My bad... not sure what I was thinking there!

I'll blame trying to read the tyres from my office window

Manage to get the price of 18s down to $500 and also got the dealer to throw in the carpet as well. If I don't want the 18s then the dealer would somehow need to source a set 17s and there will be most likely a delay with delivery.

I'll be mostly driving around town and not intending to do any offroading. Good to know the ride of the 18 is not too harsh. Can't wait to test it out for myself!!

As one of the early buyers of a MY09 Tiguan with New York Alloys 18in wheels I offer a few tips.
Keep them topped up with air...I find 280-290 kpa necessary to offer best traction/ride. If they drop to 165kpa the vehicle lacks punch in accelaration. I had a friend in the tyre industry and he also worked as a tyre expert at a VW dealer workshop and he warned me to keep them pumped high.

As for tyres I was unlucky enough to get Eagel F1 rotational tyres when new. I had to replace them and wanted the Continentals UHP but when I went to buy them only four were available and had to be shipped from WA dealer. I ended up getting the newer Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 tyres which are made in Germany. Well after 5 months I couldn't be happier...ride ...grip and so far wear all seem to far exceed the previous rubbish F1s I had. Also less stones get caught in the tread. The tread pattern is very modern..Oh and I nearly rear ended some fool in a Golf that decided not to proceed through an intersection at last minute with me up there butt so on went ABS and ESP but crikey this Tiguan pulled up with 6inches to spare. Amazing!!! One very happy (and lucky) Tiguan owner.

What should I be aiming for with a 118 or a 132 for drive away?
The 132 would be left stock with no extras so the price for that would just be drive away. The 118 I would add something's so what have people gotten drive away for it standard and with accessories?

I'm going to buy a tiguan and an Amarok at the same time so I'm hopping that can get a discount as well.
    Thanks guys

Check out New Cars for appropriate pricing targets.
From there it's up to you to work out how much you want to negotiate.

I have found that dealers aren't willing to give over hte top discounts unless it's the end of the month or they get finance deals.
