The price I got with 2.8% financing which started March 1st was the same price quoted to me in Feb. Unless they were quoting the 'inflated' price back then. So I don't know if that is entirely true Tigger. Perhaps they would start doing that. I'd like to think that the car dealers are all entirely sinister.

On a side note. I was told that they had located a car for me and it was on the water about 2-3 weeks ago, but have yet to get a delivery date or VIN number from them. They say they are waiting on the invoice from VW. So at this stage still just a waiting game.

I have noticed on Carsales that when you search for an Tiguan, under the series field they give you an option for either MY12 or MY12.5. I can understand that the newer Pacific models would probably come under MY12.5, but it appears that the other models also have a MY12.5. Does anyone have any idea as to why this would be or whether there might be any mid cycle changes to require this identification?

A model year is like a financial year.
The MY12's will have been built in the second half of 2011.
The MY12.5's are built in the first half of 2012.

As far as I am aware there was no changes to the model line other than the pacific being introduced.
It's more of an issue for Golf's etc that see minor changes (MFD, new brand of ecu etc).

Yeah, I think you are spot on. I just worked that out and came back to edit my post but you beat me to it!

I haven't heard of any changes either (other then the Pacific), but I have sent an email to VW to confirm.

Normally the My-GTI website lists model changes but there is nothing there for the Tiguan other than the MY12 changes.

Last time I talked to VW dealer they told me is just minor revision such as radio/climate control (either those two). but apart from built date. here is no major update(no cosmetic changes).

Mine's supposed to be built Week 18 so I guess it won't be built till next month

The person from the dealership said it would 10 additional weeks for the car to arrive on our shores so told me a late July or early August delivery.

    Does this sound right?

If you wanted to compare I suggest you ask them what price they could do for you if you paid cash. I think then you'd see what the real cost of the car is and how much the price is loaded up with the "hidden" finance costs. Reality is it's probably 8.8% finance with 6% built into the car price.
you are pretty much on target there tigger73

I can only imagine how much of a problem this could create if it is true.

Luckily for me i only wanted a pepper grey or black 132 DSG with comfort pack so i had no issues and i had no need to steal a car from someone lol
If the car is SOLD, the car is SOLD and no-one is able to "steal" stock. If the stock controller does his/her job, customer details are entered in the system (NADCON). Once this is done the car "disappears" and dealerships are no longer able to "see" the vehicle in the system. Area managers do have the capability to see these vehicle, but can't request those.
There is a provision of being able to "hide" stock on NADCON without marking the vehicle as sold - those vehicles can be requested by the area manager. The practice of hiding stock is common with the more rare models such as the Scirocco as stock controllers are getting tired of multiple inquiries on stock which no-one wants to give up. As I understand this is currently under review at head office and the option might in future be disabled.

The question I posed was in relation to the actual time from placing an order to receiving the actual car. Delivery bordering on half a year seems excessive. You would think VW being a large volume car manufacturer, that they'd have a streamlined process implemented.

    Any takers?
Demand currently outstrips supply. All dealer are on a "fair share" system when ordering cars. When you place your order, your car is actually not getting production allocation straight away. The car will be ordered when the next "fair share order" is due (a certain build-week). This is however not a 100% guarantee that it will be accepted by the factory.
10 weeks are purely travel by ship from Germany
"About" 2-3 weeks is spent at PATRICKS in Australia
Turn around at dealerships is about 2 - 3 days if you don't add any extras
Build time is about 55 hours
The rest is simply wait time to get an allocation at the factory.

The process is as challenging for the sales team as it is for you as a customer - as I always remind people, we don't get paid until you pay us!

    Re query on 2.8% offer.

So we ordered our 155 + leather + camera + park assist + sunroof for $49.5k back in feb to be delivered apr. A couple of weeks ago, someone from vw finance called and offered the 2.8% rate, BUT, because 'i got such a big discount on the car', to get the 2.8% rate, i must add $2k to the price of the car, plus $395 one off fee.

So i guess that proves to u that, yes, they definitely somewhat price in the interest savings into the price of the car.

    After all,

I did my calculation lately regarding this 2.8% , you only save $2-3k if you're lucky to get the slightly "discounted" price for the Tig if you go with 2.8% interest.

If there is no discount at all, the total cost for the Tig(2.8%rate) is slightly more expensive than those NORMAL interest rate / without sales period Tig. (because you get lot more rebate on the Tig)

As a conclusion, 2.8% interest only benefit you on delivery time which is before April you will get your car. On price wise, you only benefit if you can get a discounted price for the Tig at 2.8% rate. (most likely the dealers are not willing to do that and you have to compromise to what they have)

This is based on my personal situation(155kW TSI), and it might not be the same for other cases.
FYI, BMW X1 is around 50k driveaway too.. Volvo is slightly higher, mid 50's... Audi Q3 (125kW - $57k)
Do Not Quote Me on the price above. This is just my research.
