Before we bought ours we took a 147 for a strap up through the hills and honestly you don't need it. At the end of the day its an SUV not a race car. The ride was very compliant and quite comfortable. My impression of the ACC in the new Golf R I've bought is that it is useful in softening up the stiff sports suspension and you could definitely (in my opinion) tell the difference when taking the demo though the same section of road. So no, from what we saw the Off road and the ACC was really not worth it and we live in North Queensland so it will see its fair share of dirt!
Thanks angry...but like you, I have ordered a fully spec'd R for myself, and this is the wife's car (we're sharing until my R turns up in June). So for the sake of $300 or so, I'm not too worried, and if she ends up at her sisters farm in VIC, she may have a need for it after all)
I guess the point is...happy wife, happy life (yeah, really?!?!). This thing is sitting at a dealers, no wait time, I can get pre Xmas and keep the other half happy. I lose my 310Kw ride in the meantime, but get the joy of a pocket rocket in 6 months time.
