How is the DSG on the tiguan now?

    Hey guys,

So some time ago I heard there was a hesitation in the Tiguan's DSG transmission which was a potential safety hazard when turning and upon researching there was a firmware update for this issue?

Is this true? and do you feel the hesitation has been completely fixed?

    Thank You.

I've never had a hesitation issue with the DSG.

I think there is still an issue with the DSG dropping back to first unless you come to a complete stop.

That is one of the reasons I installed a flappy paddle steering wheel and also a DSG tune.

DSG = automated manual with clutches.

a person who has never driven a manual car and only used to torque converter auto box WILL LIKELY think having a slight hesitation from standing start is a defect

Some times I find it hanging onto 2nd far too long, before going down to 1st annoying.

Only real hesitation is cold starts, but fine once engine has warmed up.

In respect to the OPs original question of first gear re-engaging, I am not aware of any factory fix for this DSG "issue".

I am only terming it an "issue" as it is really a fuel economy "feature". By not dropping back to 1st gear, you are actually saving petrol.

Now if you drive it just like an auto you will find the pickup is a lot less than normal when starting from 2nd instead of 1st gear. Even if you plant your right foot the car will not pick up like "normal" so you just need to be aware of this and manually select the correct gear for the situation or drop it into "S" temporarily.

Hopefully VW read these forums and modify their software but I'm not aware of any software updates except for the 7speed DQ200 dry clutch with the recalls.

Just out of interest, the 6 speed slushbox on a diesel Tig always starts in 2nd gear if in D and only goes into 1st in tiptronic or S. Have no idea what the DSG does in this respect as I purposely avoided it in my new Tig.

    Cheers

The DSG is fine when you come to a complete stop and will drop back to first, but as said above, you have to come to a complete stop when in D. It also changes into 2nd by abot 5kph to save fuel which is also annoying

If you want it to drop back to first put it in S and it will kick back sooner but i find it seems to create a bit of a dead spot as it doesnt gear down until you accelarate. Due to this you will find yourself accelarating while the car is changing down into first gear. Its a little annoying but you get used to working around it.

I dont do much city driving anymore due to where i live but when i do i find myself bouncing between D and S all the time which sucks. I have contemplated a DSG tune but i just cant justify the expense versus the possibele warranty implications.
