HID Foglights

I was wondering if anyone replace their halogen with HID for the foglights only. If so, what is the best product? there are so many HID conversion kits out there. Also, do i need a relay? I think i need a canbus ballast to "fool" the computer that it is drawing 55 watts.

They only supply stock or OEM equivalent quality.

With HIDs, you definitely get what you pay for. Cheaper bulbs and kits just have the risk of bad quality, fitment and circuitry.

Not sure about the relay bit, but they certainly would be able to answer that for you.

I have to ask. Why on earth would anybody put HID bulbs in their FOGlights ?? Sounds like just another way to blind people by having your fog lights on when there's no darn FOG ???

I was considering it. I would never put HID lights on my headlights since that will blind people. I figured the foglight is much lower than my headlights.

Well I'm pleased you thought about the effects but I still don't understand WHY ? Fog lights have a specific purpose and are mounted low and have a wide spread specifically for FOG. HID bulbs would (I suspect) completely negate that so why do it ? I'm also not at all certain that their low mounting point would stop the "blinding" effect that HID bulbs in a non-HID reflector creates ?

OMG, I'm about to agree with you NZ! Yes, I think they would be not a great idea, and not only that problem, but I think you might end up with a blinding white-out if you actually used them in a fog.

But then how many people actually use them as fog lights, most use them in normal conditions just to show everyone that they have fog lights installed - something I've never really understood.

...or you don't get wombats on twisting mountain roads...is that a rock, stump, hole/shadow...too late...it just bumbled onto your path and smashed your radiator/suspension/steering and the wombat too. Have a nice trip.
A fog light beam pattern is short and wide and is quite useful for infilling the shadows not catered for by driving or pencil beam patterns.
Fogs beams don't have penetration and because the light is so difused don't glare...even if they offend particular individuals.

There are times and places. Just 'cos they're call fog doesn't exclusively restrict their use to fog.
