    Head unit install - RCD310 -> RCD510

    Hi guys,

So I called up Barloworld Glen Waverley and they quoted me $140 for install of the RCD 510 and Barloworld Moorabbin quoted me a price of $340 because it "has to be coded etc".
After receiving both those quotes i went to super cheap auto, bought myself some prying tools and a torx 20 screwdriver and thought surely it can't be that hard, so I'm now going to attempt to install it myself.

Is there anyone in the melbourne area that has experience coding the rcd 510 so it works with my optical parking sensors and bluetooth etc?

    Cheers,
    Cody

P.S. I realise there is a car audio and electronics section, but I'm aiming this at Tiguan owners as hopefully someone in the melbourne area with a tiguan has been down the same path and will know exactly what i need for the tiguan.

It is highly unlikely any coding will required.

If I were you I'd install it and see how it goes. The only thing you will need is the security code and that is entered via the touch screen anyway.

I have installed RCD510s in my Tiguan and Multivan with no issues and NO coding. Parking and BT just worked afterwards!

In the Tiguan it is a very easy install, no more than 5mins required ...... those VW dealers are ripping you off!

    Thanks Sharkie.

I'm going to attempt it in about an hour so I'll let you know how I go

    Cheers for the reply.

The various ones I have installed for people in different cars inc Skoda and VW didn't need coding to work per se..

AFAIK the only coding you need it to get the MFD to display directions for you, otherwise everything else should just work

You only need to code the radio if it is the SatNav RNS510 for the MFD.

RCD510, as mentioned here does not need any coding.

Heh, I misread that as RNS not RCD

    SUCCESS!

Did the install and everything works fine. No coding needed, the climate control, ops and bluetooth all works fine.

One small thing that's going to annoy me though is the bezel isn't sitting as far back as possible and there's a small gap:

    and

Bit hard to see in the photo but its annoying me.. I might take it off again and try pull the head unit forward a bit as i tried pushing the bezel and it doesn't move back any further.
