    Hard wiring dash cam

    Hi Guys,

I have just ordered a dash cam (Street Guardian SG9665GC) and am looking to get it hard wired. Does anyone have any tips on routing the cables and panel removals? I'm also looking to hard wire it so it turns on and off with the ignition - has anyone does this and did you tap a fuse, or use an empty fuse slot?

    Cheers.

Does your lighter socket turn on/off with the ignition?

Wiring in another hidden lighter socket under the dash off the back of the lighter means you don't have to add in an extra fuse and means you can use an off the shelf socket adaptor. Feel free to cut it up and hard wire if you feel the need but I'd still recommend using some sort of plug attachment so if/when you want to remove or replace it, it's very straight forward.

This is how I have wired up phone dock in my car and the camera in my wife's car. If you want it to be hidden yet accessible you can add the socket into the glove box (which is what I did with the Wifes camera).

As for Tiguan specific panels. Can't help you there.

Are you yet to install this? I just finished hardwiring my radar detector if you need any tips.
