    Glow plug warning light flashing

After 2 years and 6 months of trouble free driving the tiggy has thrown up it's first error on the way home tonight. It starts fine and idles perfectly, but as soon as I put in in gear the glow plug warning light flashes and "engine malfunction: workshop" in the MFD. It runs fine otherwise, you would never know there was a problem if the light wasn't flashing.

I'll take it to the local dealer first thing tomorrow to get them to fix it, but I hope it isn't anything too serious as we only have one car and I've got house inspections to do on the weekend. In the meantime, anyone know what it could be?

Don't worry too much until it's been properly diagnosed. I remember crapping myself when I had the glow plug light come on in my MK4 Golf - turned out to be the brake light switch of all things. Don't panic, get the fault code and shop around for fixes if the dealer comes back and says it's going to be $$$$ to put right.

Edit - you're under warranty I assume - if so milk it

Yep, under warranty I'll take your advice to milk it under advisement :p

At the very least I think I should get a GTI or R as a loan car

All fixed now, was just a dodgy MAF sensor which they replaced. Didn't get a loan car though On the plus side, they didn't have the apprentice wash the dust off it with what one can only assume is a handful of steel wool dipped in gravel.
