Post To get Extended Warranty or not?

    Hi all,

Bought my Tig over the weekend and was offered the option of extended warranty for $1773 which gets me 3 years extra or 100,000km. This warranty is direct from Volkswagen andnot through the dealership.

    What do you think?

Read, and re-read the fine print. What are you bound to? What exactly does it cover, and up to what limit? ...and that's just for starters. You will be entering into a personal contract between yourself and them and unless you completely abide by their terms and conditions, it will not be worth the paper it's written on.

I haven't got the details yet but let's assume that it is exactly the same conditions as the std factory warranty of 3 years

You can find the product disclosure statement for this warranty on the Volkswagen website here.

You can purchase this up until the last day of the factory warranty, so consider that you may not have the car for more than 3 years, the $ you spend may not benefit you.

I'd be highly surprised if that was the case. Problem is, you are well out of any statutory warranty period, so they can place any conditions they care to in the contract - such as having to have the vehicle serviced by a particular dealer etc etc.

Good point Mikonoz. I might leave it up until the day before the std factory warranty expires.
Just have to make sure I don't forget!!
I don't suppose the MFD on the Tig has a calender plus reminder function?!!

It might be more accurate to call this an insurance policy, not an extended warranty - "Volkswagen New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance Schedule....
“we”, “our” or “us” means Allianz Australia Insurance Limited AFS Licence No. 234708 ABN 15 000 122 850 of 2 Market Street, Sydney, NSW, 2000."

Just make sure you know what is covered, what isn't, what you have to do to maintain cover and those little clauses such as: we will "...pay the reasonable cost of such repair or replacement...may take into account the age of the parts to be repaired or replaced and the number of kilometres travelled by your vehicle..." etc etc.

I would also wait and if there were not many faults with the Tig I wouldn't be buying extended warranty.
