Front Struts

Hey all! I have recently purchased (within a week) a used Early 2016 Tiguan. 2.0 TSI 4motion.

Whenever I turn the car to the left it makes a boing/knocking noise in the front suspension. When I took the car for a test drive it made this noise and the car salesman said it was because I drove over a grate on the driveway. Which when I got out of the car, I did in fact drive over a grate but I now realise that is not what made the noise.

I purchased the car and on the day I picked it up the salesman said when they did the roadworthy it needed some work on the front left struts. He said it's nothing to worry about and is all sorted. I have copied and pasted his words from an email below. It was received today after I asked for more clarification.

"Front Struts (suspension) were replaced as part of the roadworthy and reconditioning for your vehicle due to being worn passed the acceptable levels.

This is the cause of the occasional noise made as the suspension settles, and might take 50-100km to settle in full.".

I just want advise on whether this is a thing? do front struts take time to settle? and should I be alarmed considering I heard this noise when test driving? I'm still within my warranty period and so just wanted to do some research in the case I need to use it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not sure but I’d definitely recommend taking it to a specialist VW independent workshop for an inspection before your warranty runs out.

Either way it doesn’t sound like the repair has been done properly.
