Just done the swap, now my car is paddles equipped!

There's slight delay in shifting as pressing the button and waiting the gearbox to shift. DSG is quite instant, slight delay in tiptronic gearbox, it's understandable I guess.

I found in manual mode, the gearbox still downshift by it self. Ah well, at least I have more control of the gearbox.

Great to hear! Which steering wheel did you end up getting?

I have the normal flappy one from an EOS or jetta i think.

I didn't go for the GTi steering wheel as I want to keep the factory look. I may regret later lol, but for the time being I'm happy.

I'm looking at doing the swap.

Is this the right wheel for the Tig without having to change the airbag as well?

    Cheers.

It looks like the right shape - it's the round wheel instead of flat bottom one (I have flat bottom "R" wheel and that needed a new airbag). Though best to ask the guys on the website to confirm the part # for the airbag and then check this against what you have if you want to be certain.

The safest way to do this is with VCDS - here's the scan of the hardware bits in my car:

Though as I said I have the flat bottom sports wheel which has a different shaped airbag than the "stock" Tig wheel.

If it looks like the one you have now Wynnston, then it should be fine and save yourself the cost of an airbag!

But what tigger73 said for safe measure!

Although I think he meant Part No and not serial no.

Corrected. Other thing you need to keep in mind is that there are a couple of different methods for the airbag to fasten to the wheel. So you need to get the airbag that has the same clip method as the wheel.
As far as I can tell these are the 2 key things is correct shape and matching mounting clippy things (that's the technical term). There's only 2 wires to the airbag and I'm pretty sure this is just the trigger.

    Ok thanks.

I'm a little confused, I can't seem to see a part where it says "disconnect battery" whilst doing the install. Do you all leave it plugged in while changing out the airbag....?

Seriously if you don't know what you're doing don't touch it as people have been killed by airbags accidentally deploying.

If you're going to swap it yourself make sure you fully discharge the electrical system and yourself (i.e. static) first.
