VW GOLF VI MK6 EOS CADDY PASSAT SCIROCCO DRIVER AIRBAG | eBay

    Try that guy.

I just purchased a passat premium cluster from him. I purchased a wheel intact with air bag for about $800 shipped, figured it was just easier to get the entire unit. Probably a little expensive but easy and shipped in 4 days from europe

I think as long as it's the right shape (for a sports steering wheel) and has all the same clips/fittings on the back you should be OK. I don't think there are too many compatibility issues with airbags (from other forums there appears to be more programming issues and incompatibility SWCM).

I'm yet to find out what the differences in the airbag part numbers but the one you're looking for is in this series: 5K0 880 201 (?) where ? is a letter from A to Q. This may be date related - haven't found a parts guru to shed light on this one yet.

My airbag is in transit - hopefully have it in the next week or so. If you can wait I'll let you know how I get on.

That's probably not too bad for the price. You'll save on shipping buying everything together and if you're lucky you'll even get the cable included which you may need if putting into a Passat - can't help you here.

    Success!!!!!

12mm triple square bit arrived yesterday and the airbag came this morning (yes Saturday delivery). After a bit of mucking around with a screw driver and the clips on the back of the airbag it came out pretty easily in the end.

Needed a converter for the triple square bit to take from 1/2" drive to 3/8" for the ratchet but other than that it went pretty smoothly.

Threw a steering wheel fault when I turned it back on but drove down the road and the fault cleared.

Just waiting now to get it hooked up onto Vagcom and enable my flappy paddles...

Doesn't the R wheel normally come with blue stitching?

I think you'll find all the local delivered Type R's have black stitching on the steering wheels. Red is probably a spec from another country.

On a separate note I just noticed there's a GTI wheel with DSG paddles on ebay Australia:

However if you get it you'll still need to get the airbag.

A quick trip to my favourite mobile mechanic (Transporter) and 30 seconds later the paddles are switched on.

So now gear changing is a breeze. Downshifting when going down hills and you want some engine braking or upshifting when driving in "S" and the DSG transmission stays in gear too long. Plus you can shift it back into 1st when you need to get going at low speed.

Yes it's a relatively expensive upgrade given the functionality increase is relatively minor (and would have been way cheaper to include paddle shifters with the vehicle as an option from new) but for me it makes the car a lot more driveable. It allows you to get around some of the annoying DSG transmission issues.

So for the record I was able to use my existing SWCM and airbag cable from my 2011 Tiguan and just purchase the wheel and matching airbag. The only thing that I regret is that I didn't do it sooner!
