Faulty Fuse Holder causes Multiple Electrical Fault Messages

Today I went to pick up my daughter from school. I parked at the school, quickly picked her up (10 mins) and then drove away. After 2 minutes of driving the following lights have stopped working in my Tiguan:
    - front right headlight
    - front right indicator
    - rear left indicator
    - rear middle break light
    - rear left fog light

The indicator sound was quick and the error messages appeared on my MVD one after another: "Check front right..." and so on. WTH???

After I arrived to my destination I confirmed visually that the lights didnt work indeed. I spent there an hour and then drove away again. Guess what? Everything was working again perfectly! WTH??? In the meantime, I called VW Service and booked the car in for next week Monday.

FYI: my car had been serviced a week ago, they replaced my original factory installed GPS and radio aerial and re-ran the antenna cable from the head unit to the antenna.

After that I had the flat battery on the weekend (NRMA replaced it) and today this strange electrical issue. Coincidence?

I am not a car mechanic (just an engineer), but it seems like something is loose, maybe a ground wire?

Your Ebox fuse board will have melted...the fuse box next to the battery...check the 30amp fuse on the back left...pull it out..you will see it and the board melted....put a new fuse in will get them working for now but you will need a new fuse board....VDUB...

Had the same thing happen. It started with one fuse blowing which I replaced, then next time smelt something burning which was the fuse circuit board. Go see an auto electrician, cost me about $500 to fix and they checked that everything was grounded properly. just one of those

It caused what you described, the car to reported that heaps lights had stopped working all simultaneously. It's the board. Fix that, problem solved.

I am sorry to be pain in the ass but that's the effect not the cause. What causes a fusebox melt?

Think its just a issue the board itself...as after replacing the board ive not seen one melt again so points not to being a outside issue just proberly manufacturing issue of the board that fails over time..

Thanks vdub. This sounds pretty bad. I love my car, but I have never ever had any fuse problem with my 10 previous cars I drove. Especially not after 3 years and 5 months, just when the warranty expired. I would not expect something like this from VW, but again this is my first VW, before I drove Fords, Fiat, Nissans, Hondas.

BTW I checked the fuse box and the top left fuse (green 30) have melted just like you said.

Do you know what that fuse is for?
