I wouldn't have thought that the LED's would draw any more current than the standard incandescent bulbs (if anything I would have thought that these would be less).

And given that the 9w7 is a standard VW accessory this shouldn't have done it either.

I think your answer is that you had a dodgy fuse holder and that you should be all good now.

Though if you want to be doubly sure just check the wattage of the LED vs incandescent bulbs.

LEDs have 1/5th of the load as normal bulbs so yes, we are talking about much less load there, but it wasn't my point.
Anyway, its all sorted now, I have the car back, they replaced the EBOX (thats how they call it) under warranty.
VW Barloworld's customer service is awesome, I just really hope I won't need to see them again till my next service due.

Well I had exactly the same thing happen to me the other day - 10 warnings coming up in the MFD one after the other and my reverse camera didn't work (blue screen). Plus when I went to indicate to turn, the indicator light on the dash went ballistic (about 4 x faster than normal).

I thought it might have been some of the wiring for the various bits I've fitted, however turns out it was the fuse holder.

I already had my car booked in at Solitaire for some other warranty work today so I asked the guys to take a look at it. The workshop replaced the fuse holder with the updated unit at the same time which was great.

That's one major relief as I thought I'd be pulling panels off this weekend to check all the wiring/connections.

    From the Age today:
A problem with fuses in headlight electrics could lead to the failure of some functions.
Volkswagen will change fuses in about 800,000 Tiguan vehicles built between 2008 and 2011.

Looks like everyone's going to get their fusebox changed

Haha, epic. That's why they changed my fusebox quickly and free even after the warranty expired.

I entered my newly acquired Tiguan into the system at the local dealer yesterday. They had only just received the notification from VW Aust. the same day & were curious how I knew about it. My car is out of warranty[in time] & I had not bothered to notify VW Aust. of my ownership.
If I hadn,t seen this thread, the changeover would not have occurred as I don't buy the AGE. Thanks to all posters in this thread.

I believe all they're actually going to get is a new fuse that doesn't overheat and cause the fusebox to melt though I guess the whole thing may need replacement in some cases where there's already a problem.

I was told it would take an hour or even more so I think it is more than just a fuse replacement. This comment was in response to my question as I told them I didn't want to leave my car as I live probably 25kms away & wanted to wait rather than doing 4 trips.

Good news for all! Spoke to a VW rep (head office) and was told affected vehicles, mine would be sent out a letter for recall.
VW would cover the cost even if your VW has run out of warranty.

In my case it was the entire fuse folder that was changed over - not sure if this is what the recall is about. Will find out in due course no doubt.
