    Exclamation Factory Fitted Towbar Wiring

    Hi everyone,

I have done lots of searching on here and on other forums and I cannot find the answer.

I have a 2011 VW 103TDI DSG Tiguan and I have just installed a genuine towbar. I am now trying to fit the vw trailer module and associated wiring. When I went to mount the module I found that there was already a red connector sitting in the left hand rear quarter and the fuses listed in the kit instructions were already installed in the fuse box.

    Now my question..
I noticed there are differences in the red plug that is pre-wired in the car compared to the one that comes as part of the trailer module kit. Do I need to pull all this wiring out and install the one supplied or can I use the one VW installed in the factory. This isn't mentioned in the instructions but from my understanding I should be able to use the factory one??

Secondly if the car was pre-wired for this module are there any changes that I need to make through VCDS for it to work correctly?

    Hope this makes sense.

    Regards,
    Nick'

Plug the red connector in, and run the shorter harness from the module to the towbar.

VCDS coding is very simple. Go into address word 19 (CanBUS gateway), and enable the trailer module. Easy as.

Sorry for the slow reply, I have been interstate and not able to finish it until today. I tried enabling the Towbar module in the VCDS as you mentioned but it doesn't connect. Do I need to connect the factory wiring under the dash and if so where abouts and what wires? It's all connected fine in the boot...

Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You need to connect the CANBUS wires that are located near the diagnostic socket. There should be 3 plugs taped up in foam. 2 black and one blue. These plugs dont connect...best is to cut off all 3 plugs and wire the correct canbus wires together. So there will be 3 wires together of one colour and then 3 wires of the other. Its tight space to work in. when these are connected then you will be able to talk to towbar on gateway.

Yes. When you cut the plug you will have 6 wires. Think 3 will be orange and brown and the other 3 orange and green. Connect the matching colours and your away.

Yeah, sorry. I completely forgot about the CANbus wires under the dash.
