    EOI: Sydney Softroad excusion?

    Hi guys

I haven't been active here for a LONG time thanks to some health issues. There doesn't seem to be much happening in the way of Tiguan Offroad driving. Is anyone out there interested in doing a nice softroad drive sometime to see how your Tig goes off the bitumen?

The last drive I did was a bit more intense than it should have been because I did not know exactly where I was going. This time I propose a drive out at Belanglo State Forest which I am very familiar with. Even Tig's without the Offroad Pack will be capable of navigating around there.

Let me know if you're interested and I can try organise something.

OK, so I did a "test run" yesterday - to satisfy my own curiosity more than anything else. Also, it was stinking hot and the idea of being in the air conditioned Tig was appealing

So Belanglo actually has some nice driving. I worked out a loop that will take a couple of hours to complete that has some nice spots for pics, lookouts, and places to stop and chat/eat/etc. Terrain-wise I did the whole thing WITHOUT Off-road turned on - so ANY Tig should be able to handle it. I didn't scrape the bottom at all either so you don't need under body protection.

For anyone with the off-road pack that would like something a little more challenging there is a "Special Loop" track that I can take you on that has some nice loose gravel hills to navigate. Although the loop can be done without off-road engaged I would not advise it. The challenging loop is easily by-passed so if you aren't feeling up to the task it will be a simple case of taking the easy route and waiting for the "dare devils" to rejoin the group.

So, still no takers? Come on! Get to see some bush, get your Tig dirty, and maybe even see some wildlife - we saw some Kangaroo's yesterday but I have also seen Emu and Deer there before when riding.

I would love to.. but Sydney is too far from here Actually I have done little bit of soft off-roading with my Tig( unfortunately no off road tech) in Melbourne, basically on gravel roads and sandy areas with my new Haldex upgrade. Difference is I have driven it much faster speeds than normal off-roading like rally driving style with all four wheels drifting and sliding throwing sand and dust all over the place! Lol.

One of the nice roads close to Melbourne with a review is here if any one interested .. Along Gippsland's Grand Ridge Road

Cool. Do you have offroad pack as a matter of interest?

    Any more takers?

Just out of interest also, what does offroad pack have to offer? I can't help but think i'd rather have full control of what i want the car to do than relying on a programmed/perceived interpretation of what may lie ahead, or current conditions... ?

Just curious. (been driving many 4WD's for work & play for quite while now!)

From: Volkswagen 2011 Tiguan - Full details: Volkswagen tinkers with Tiguan | GoAuto

...off-road technology package comprises hill descent control, revised throttle pedal mapping, more sensitive electronic differential lock operation, loose surface-friendlier ABS brakes and, in automatic cars, the ability to preselect maximum gear and optimised engine braking....
I am sure there is more detail on here somewhere if you do a search.

Can we please back on topic about anyone in the greater Sydney area being interested in doing a softroad drive?
