DSG gearbox oil that never needs changing??

Hi all a question my father in law has a Tiguan that's about 3 years old (I think) and he had his mechanic in Boonah Qld test his gearbox oil and say that it is "fine", so apparently he called VW and they told him he is very lucky and has a rare gearbox that doesn't ever need the oil in it changed. This sounds very strange to me as I'm under the understanding that the DSG oil needs changing ever 60,000km.
    Thoughts??

Basic explaination is that if it has the filter housing on top of it, you can service it.

There are a couple of DSGs that aren't considered to have a service interval on them, but I don't believe they're fitted to the Tiguan.

    +1 ^^^^^^

I'd be asking what science / technology was behind the "test".

Early Tiguans had a conventional automatic transmission with no service intervals from factory. I think it was late 2010 where the DSG came out in Tiguans. They are 7 speed wet clutch DSG with a 60,000 km service interval.

Even though there are no prescribed service intervals on the torque convertor autos, they still need servicing unless you want an expensive repair bill beyond 100,000km.

Conventional autos still get serviced at 60,000kms across all VAG models.

Thanks guys for all the input, slightly confused with everyone's opinions but general consensus seems to be there is some maintain required which was my thoughts. As he doesn't like to be corrected because he "knows everything" (although can't even change the oil in his car) will wait see how it goes from a distance.
PS I won't be seeing his mechanic
