Just crawled under car as noise is driving me crazy. It is road speed related, not engine speed or gear.

Probably just tyres but they look evenly worn and just did the latest rotation, balance and alignment.

Only thing i found under the car was one if the shafts that goes from the wheel towards the gearbox moves a little back and forwards towards the wheel, lateral? movement rather than rotational. This is front passenger side. The other 3 shafts do not move at all like this. I think it is called the outer shaft? There is a cv boot at each end of it. Its only about a couple of mm movement and a clunk when it stops.

Is the movement normal and could it be causing the noise?

Thanks for any thoughts. The dealer cant even book it in for a paid inspection for 3 weeks, so i'll take it to a real mechanic if it gets serious.
