Hi,
Wondering if anyone out there has had any issues with there diesel particulate filter (DPF). I drive a 2009 model which has only done about 60, 000 km and just recently my DPF warning light has come on. I went through the manual and followed what it said to help clear out the blockage but that didn't work. Have it in the shop know and they are saying it's going to cost over $4000 to have it replaced. Just wonbering if anyone else has had this problem and what did you do to fix problem or is there any alternative fix for the DPF...

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
Are they VW guys looking at your car? On that year and others they had G450 pressure sensor faults, (DPF sensor). If that sensor is reading wrong then it flags up a DPF issue that the customer cant over come with a DPF regen drive. usually that sensor is replaced and then re adapted to the car ECU, then the regen figures are checked, if the DPF is overfull then yes it will need to be replaced as there is a limit to how much ash and soot is in the filter for regen. Ask them how much OVER the limit the filter is reading.....If its just a couple of % then there is a way around it but its not really recommended!.......VDUB...

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

60,000km sounds a little early for replacing the DPF, but depending on how you drive this may be the case (a lot of short trips).

Ive only ever seen two DPF filters actually need replacing due to being full by genuine reasons and no fault codes....one on a CC with 100.000k on clock..the other a crafter with 1000km on clock...

First step is to check if the g450 pressure sensor ( from memory ) is the updated part number one. The original switch on 2008-2009 models caused a lot of problems. VW parts guys know ALL about it.
Second is to borrow a vag com cable and check it yourself. Like suggested above it is odd to fail at those sort of kms, but not impossible. You can indeed have the DPF properly reverse flushed, there are garages here doing that now, and it would be as good as my efforts to cut mine open. Mine has been awesome for a further 30,000kms since cutting it open ( doing much driving these days ).
Finally worst case you will get a replacement DPF out of the UK for about a grand if you hunt around. The other option is the very illegal DPF delete, not so cool in real life covering people with soot though.
My suggestion is to find my cut open thread above, I am sure there was a guy from a garage that was doing proper backflushes, and resetting the values to start you afresh.
Screw spending $4k on a new one!!!!
