    Downpipes? who and where?

Wondering who does a downpipe for the tiguan? APR used to but iv'e emailed numerous times with no response. Tried Viezu as they had made some but same again, no response.

If no one makes them, could i get one made here in Melbourne and then get the tune without throwing a CEL?? Are they able to disable the codes that it would spit out?

Looking at getting the Downpipe and CAI and get the stage 2 tune.

APR used to make them, no demand so they stopped.
Not sure if viezu ever got any to market.

Best bet is a custom made setup after talking to your local tuner who will be doing the post downpipe stage 2 tune.

Yeah, all tuners can fix that.

One of your best options for tiguan DP is to import one from techtronics tuning.. 2.5 TT Turbo Stainless Downpipe w/ Single Cat (race 49 state only) [251 214S] - $495.00 : Techtonics Tuning, VW and Audi Performance Tuning and Repair Parts

It is more neat and economical solution if you are not planning to go beyond stage 2. Some local shops will be able to build one for you but not many will undertake the job. Dandy exhaust Dandy Exhausts - High Performance Exhaust Systems, Mufflers, Suspension, Brakes - Dandenong, South Eastern Suburbs Melbourne is the place I got my 3 inch down pipe custom built.

APR stage 2 (test pipe file) will take care of the CEL issue.

The Tiguan down-pipe is very similar to a Mk6 Golf R. A decent exhaust shop should be able to modify a Golf R one to fit. At least this is what Viezu used to do with their Tiguan DP. I believe the Tiguan DP is slightly shorter and has one extra bend compared to the Golf R.

This is probably the best option for the downpipe if you want an off the shelf ready to fit product.

As Gavin pointed out, any tuner should be able to write out the CEL code in the stage 2 file.

Custom is the only option at this point. There really is not large enough demand for them to make it worthwhile for any manufacturer to build in quantity.

I have a prototype exhaust on my car which was developed by HM Headers in conjunction with Viezu which didn't go into production. The original was unresonated and it was LOUD. Just ask anyone that heard it.

I had it on for a couple of months before I had a local exhaust shop modify it to install a resonator to tone it down. Now it's just about perfect. Quiet around town and still a decent amount of noise on WOT.

I had posted up some video/sound clips which are in my build thread. Gear changes with the unresonated exhaust were deafeningly loud.

Here's a "before" video of the stock exhaust with 3" DP.

    New exhaust:

Here's the audio clip. Probably doesn't give a true indication how loud this is. This was a cool morning and the first 60 seconds the auto-choke is active. After that it quietens down... and then a couple of revs with a pop.

Here's a photo from under the rear of the car - system is non-resonated with only a small muffler at the rear.

A quick sound clip of the new exhaust running through a short tunnel:

    Resonator added:

Fitted up to 3" DP which drops to 2.5" just before joining up to the cat-back section.

    Finally new tips installed:

So it's all possible, however none of this is off the shelf unfortunately. You'll need to find a good exhaust shop to custom fabricate a system for you... and be prepared to go back for some tweaks to get it just right. You probably won't get it exactly right first time around.

Also you may want to make sure that you can fit your stock cat-back back on if you ever get sick of it or for when you go to sell the car. Loud exhausts are probably not high up on the shopping list for many potential Tiguan owners.
