Thanks, I'll ask my friend, he is very helpful. If not then maybe a good panel beater can get them and spray to order. Surely they come with double sided tape fitted?

I have seen a Tig with a dent on the door crease which a strip there could have lessened the dent. After all you could open your door up on an unseen object, so in all any protection is better than none. My guess is the VW Aust just wanted to save money and lower the cost of the car, just like the baggage hooks.

They are attatched with self adhesive tape..there are non VW options available as well if you troll 4x4/offroad supply co. I think Cobra was a brand name mentioned on MyTiguan.com
The cobra ones look crap, they have cobra logo on them - yuk

These part Nos. are correct. I checked with VW dealer and he can get them from Singapore via the VW Aust parts distribution, he said they get heaps of non standard stuff. Now the price may change your mind. The rears were about $110 each and the fronts were about the same so I guess with spray painting them you could be up for $500-$600 or more.

I also saw another Tiguan at my work and the passenger front door had a dent on the crease where these strips would go so that makes two tiguans I have seen with panel damage where these strips may have helped minimise the damage. Now I am worried about my doors but at this cost it is not feasible IMO.

I was having a look at these guys

    http://www.worldimpex.com

and using the VW part codes

    SKU Item Price Qty Subtotal
    976390 STRIP $75.53 1 $75.53
    976391 STRIP $75.53 1 $75.53
    976392 STRIP $65.08 1 $65.08
    976393 STRIP $65.08 1 $65.08
    Subtotal $281.22
6.0% Sales Tax (MD Shipping Addresses Only) $0.00
    Shipping (UPS Worldwide Expedited) $74.65
    Grand Total $355.87

after converting from USD to AUD, price works out to $381.140.

I don't know what the cost of spraying the strips would be. Anyone know what the cost is to remove the dents in a door as a had never bothered with any of my other cars.

That's not bad. I'm guessing a few hundred $'s to spray and fit?

    Group order

I was quoted just under AUD200 for four unpainted strips from a VW dealer in Brno, Czech Republic. Retail price.

I think that if VW Australia wanted to do us a favor without loosing money on the deal, they could bring these strips to AU for the same price or so. Unpainted.

Now the thing is - do they realy care, and if somebody within VW AU does, how to get to him/her??

    Joe
