I don't think so, it's just a bit of metal covered in plastic/rubber with a thread on the end.
    Happy to be corrected though.

I don't use my radio, it's purely music from the SD card.

I do have the factory sat nav...it came with the long ugly antenna, not the shark fin. Can't say I've seen one Tig with the shark fin in my travels.

I have fitted on e of the smaller 'bee sting" style antennas, and it looks great and fits well, but it has compromised radio reception quite a bit unless in the heart of suburbia. I am out on the outskirts of the Sydney metro area, and it does crackle a bit now..

But all worth it for the better look...and I use the other forms of media most of the time anyway...

I have one of those, too, Tigger. Though i have been able to drive from Melbourne to both Torquay & Bendigo without loss of signal. I usually have JJJ on (or MP3 or CD) but i do think the ABC pumps out a stronger signal, for some reason.

You can replace a Tiguan's antenna with any styled antenna. I purchased a Richbrook 'Sabre' Anti-Theft Car Radio Aerial. It is very short and looks fantastic.
There are no issues with the radio reception either!

Here's my Tig with a DIY Mk5 (non-GPS) shark fin antenna installed.

Have since upgraded to a Mk6 (non-GPS) shark fin antenna:

All this talk of antenna's and reception has prompted me to ask the following question:

How can I increase the signal strength / reception for AM band?

I am based in Sydney and am a keen cricket / NRL fan and always listen to these on the radio (ABC), however I have noticed that the Tiguan has a much compromised AM band reception compared with many other vehicles. e.g. BA/FG Ford Falcon

I know that AM is very old school and that its probably not even used in Europe anymore, its just a pity that VW didn't enable the digital/sat radio for the standard stereo system on Australian spec Tiguans.

I picked up the Sharan replica stubby antenna from Dubaddiction it was cheaper than getting one off ebay at the time.
Tim is a forum member and very good to work with.
Shipping was fast and everything works well, no loss in reception.
Just thought I'd update this. There is loss in reception for the long distance radio channels. For instance I live in Brisbane and used to listen to a sunshine coast radio channel with qood reception on the original Tig antenna. Have since changed to the DUB Addiction stubby antenna and noticed a considerable loss of reception for the sunshine coast channel. Would assume the same will occur for the Brisbane radio channels when either on the Sunny Coast or Gold Coast.
