Sell it privately than. Certainly 4 year old Tiguan could sell for at least $15,000 maybe even yours $18,000.

Hi
I am interested in your thoughts on depreciation in the Tiguan diesel.
I will be purchasing a Tiguan on a novated lease arrangement & need to decide on the terms of the lease.
In the past I have leased petrol engined cars & because I travel 40,000-45,000 kms per year (mostly freeway) I have only leased for 2 years with a fear of the high km factor on resale.
My plan for the diesel was to run it for 5 years with 200,000+ km at the end of the lease. I have been told that 'kms don't matter in a diesel' (of course with limitations)
The car would have leather seats, towbar, roof racks, bonnet protector, bluetooth, comfort pack, fog lights, park assist, mats, probably white exterior. (Wanted the off road pack but unfortunately nothing to suit on the incoming orders & cannot wait 16 weeks for full order). Would be fully maintained.
So at the end of 4 years I would need to get $18,500 & 5 years $14,000.
I thought that was reasonable expectation for a well maintained diesel but the lease company have stongly advised against saying that a car of that age & kilometres I'd get 'nothing for it' at the end of lease & concern on extra maintenance costs with the older vehicle.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks
Peter

Its clear you will pay a premium for the privilege of driving an import over a falcadore on gas, I suppose the fuel savings and latent demand for the Tiguan will minimise that premium.
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km
Even though its a diesel its a premium Euro import ... and high milage and good resale on any Euro do not go together I'm afraid.
Many lease plans offer guaranteed end of lease values and this what I'd recomend you do, as the risk of not getting what you need for a 200 000km+ euro import is very high .....
it does not matter if it is diesel or not as unlike the 4wd diesel market the stigma is attached to the cost of maintaining a high km euro .....

Thanks everyone for your advice.
I took it on board & took a lease over 3 years, rather than 4 or 5. (Can always extend later.)
Ordered a White Tiguan auto tdi that should hopefully arrive in January.
After reading all the excitement about the car on this site, I'm really looking forward to it arriving.
