The petrol motors are chain driven, the diesel ones are belt driven.

Belt shouldve been done at 105. Best to find out, before shelling out for a new belt so soon.

Just as a comparison, have shopped around for pricing in Brisbane on 3yr/45k Logbook Service on 2010 Tig 103TDi - first price was $750 from Austral VW in Newstead, then $525 from Norris VW in Kedron, and settled on $440 from Valley Car Clinic in Newstead. That's one hell of a mark-up from Austral...didn't purchase from them in the first place due to horrible customer interactions with the sales guy, and this has just confirmed why few people go there. Conveniently located for inner city dwellers yes, but not $310 worth of convenience!

Just had my 45k service at a local VW dealer and the cost was $640, which included a brake fluid flush (the car wasn't 2 years old at the 30k service).
I decided to get it serviced closer to home as opposed to the dealer I purchased the Tig from, being about 30 k's away....which i had the last 2 services with.
Anyways, the price quoted was about the same, but one thing that amused me was the phone call i received half way through the service about the "recommended extras"......
    A/C sanitization $135
    Injector clean $135
Front and rear wipers $115 set
Obviously I said no to all, and yes i know they all up-sell but isn't a/c sanitization just a $20 dollar autoglym bottle??
Injector clean....do i really need it?...and if so, at what interval?
Wipers....I know they are pricey, but at at $115 a set!!.....would appreciate someone recommending an on-line store i could purchase a set.
Obviously if I accepted them all, it would have cost me in excess of $1000...

    Cheers

Those upsells are usually handled by staff based at the dealership, but employed by a third party company like Fortron.

The A/C bombs and throttle body cleaners do work, but the jury is still out in my opinion on the injector and fuel system cleaners. A lot of their cleaning units are quite intrusive and crude to setup or adapt to alot of cars. Meaning a lot of butchered fuel line fittings, among other things. From my hands-on experience with them, on a lot of cars it's not a very efficient way to make money. They usually allow around 30mins start to finish, but on some cars, that's used up in just hooking it up and putting it back together, plus clearing missfire fault codes, etc.

Wiper blades do vary in price. $115 would be the full blade, not just the insert, plus labour of course.

Not really relevant but our Polo ones were $75 for full blades for just the front two.

Have tried cheap Supercap on other cars and wouldnt do it again. Were worse then the ones I replaced

I do a 30k with brake fluid for almost half that price! And I don't try to upsell crap. Maybe I'm selling myself short?

...or maybe it's not your main income?

Because, for the 1/2 the cost of $333 when you paid for the parts, there is not much of the profit left, definitely not enough to pay tax and other bills.

Shhh it's a secret. Still pay the tax man but no overheads when your workshop is part of your house.
