I fitted a AVC9000-1 and after three days away from the car, i went to start and had a flat battery, never happened before.

I contacted Rob at Auspack, he replied promptly and advised me there is a fix which involves a relay and some wiring, which he testing and will send a "fixed" connector.

According to rob the Car is still looking for the original radio and this is the reason for the battery drain.

The AVC is a good thing and i have confidence Rob will get it sorted

Im not sure if it helps in this case, but hope you get to enjoy your car
To clarify this, the fault is not the car. Your car worked fine with the stock headunit and now after fitting the aftermarket headunit your car is having problems.

The car sends commands via the CAN bus to power up/power down different components at different times. The AVC9000 is not recognising these signals and staying powered up which drains the battery, this is the fault of the manufacturer and shows a lack of testing.

Personally I wouldn't be doing any dodgy relay "hacks" because if something goes wrong with the CAN bus you can bet that this is where the dealer will point the finger at. This is an ugly suggestion and IMO is a poor permanent fix for what is a faulty product.

All I can say is I'm glad I got the AVC9000 and not the 9000-1! For once in my life I got the right deal.

You guys can't swap for an AVC9000 can you?

    battery drain

    Hi vincent,
    MY tig was delivered 06/09,
TDI auto, with comfort pack. Car not here at moment so cant recall build date.

Never had a battery drama before install of AVC9000-1,

Im happy with the unit, got a bug with the GPS though, and hopefully robs onto a fix for the battery drain.

In some ways these cars are too smart, i had drama with hooking my trailer up with LED lights!!

There are a few people in the same boat, not only ones supplied by rob,
Id hate to be dealing with a chinese supplier on ebay.

    Rob has been great

    regards
    Phil.

    Smile ACCC Result

    Hello

Just wanted everyone to know after lodging a complaint via ACCC, I have manage to get an extended 12 months warranty service on my car (had to force ACCC to negotiate with the dealer, which is something at least from all the troubles I had previously, touch wood my car continues to run smoothly.

This is the email I received from ACCC re dealer response:

"This email is to confirm that as a goodwill gesture we are happy as a Dealership to Extend ---------- Factory Warranty for an additional 12 Months up to 100000km as per the Manufacturer’s warranty"

(I still think its a cop out how the dealer use the words "as a goodwill gesture" when I previously ask for some compensation due to the stress and inconvenience to my family) but enough said the car is working and that is what I only wanted in the first place.

    Happy Holidays Everyone

Well it's good you seem to be happy at last, with a fully working car.

So, pre-delivery you had a non-VW satnav installed at Robert's suggestion, which caused the battery drain problem constantly until September, when you finally removed said un-named unit. Up till this time there were on-going "niggles" with electrics behaving strangely.

Then the 4th battery was installed, and since the mystery sat-nav is no longer there, you have no further issues.

So how about filling us in as to the brand of Sat-Nav that caused all your trouble.

Side Note: A battery need only drain ONCE to be wrecked. As soon as the after-market device flattens your battery, it's gone to god. The OP states that the battery also flattened with standard Radio in June, but that was probably due to the standard unit being re-fitted temporarily when the vehicle ALREADY had a stuffed battery.

I'm confused. Why would a dealer give you an extended warranty if it was the fault of an aftermarket product? hmmm, something not right here.

He did it to have the complaint "go away" as explanations seemed unacceptable to the owner who continued to blame the car instead of the actual cause (the aftermarket head unit). That's why he did it "without prejudice" ie: There's nothing wrong with the Tig and there never was but if this makes you happy then we'll do it !!

sounds like Duttons got to the bottom of it in the end, from friends experiences they are good when issues like this crop up, but sometimes it takes time to go through the process of elimination - unfortuantly the customer suffers while this occurs. I'd say lemontailing did a pretty good job of busting their balls, whether it was warranted is another matter
