Coil Pack Issues with in Tune Mode?

It has actually been diagnosed as a faulty coilpack, switch coilpacks around & the misfire follows the faulty coilpack.

Just as a small idea, it could be the spark plugs.

The APR tune increases boost and leans off the AFR. If one plug is marginal it might be enough to make it miss. I would pull the plugs and check them before buying a new coil pack.

Also plugs wouldn't show in a diagnostic.

If the misfire followed the coilpack when it was switched then its usually gonna be the coilpack. Just replace it and be done with it. They can be bought cheaply from the US if your local parts counter is too expensive.

Went back to VW, I think I wiped the fault code before I went and they said to me they cant find anything wrong. I dont see why this car works fine in stock mode when in tune mode it misfires. I thought these cars are able to engineered to take the higher boost! anyway will replace the dodgy coil, but I have been told they will all fail.

Coil packs fail - run it through Google (1,460,000 hits). Cars will take extra boost no problem, but if you have a bad component, it will show up quicker on a chipped car.

The other alternative is to drive around in stock mode until it fails, get stuck by the roadside, get towed to VW and then get it replaced.

Fact is, we keep 2 sets of coilpacks in stock (we don't even service cars here) and we never go to the track without a spare set.

Nah, I flashed TT a couple of years ago and it did a coilpack on the road test. I carry a couple of spares with me but it eventually did all 4 before the afternoon was over. I had warned the owner it may happen, he was cool about it and picked the car up after it was fixed and tested.

It could have driven for years unchipped, the tune just took it over the edge sooner.

If it were my car, I'd buy a set of coilpacks and fit/have them fitted. You have a new car warranty but what's your time worth. Going back and forth to the dealers, has to have some value. Lost time off work or what ever, it adds up.

Try a different dealer if it's really crucial that you don't pay but I'd make it a commercial decision and move on.

It will be good to hear as i got the muffler delete done but they said i should have gone with the resonator.

They had awful problems years ago but they have been a millions times better since the MK5 came out. There's very little likelihood of new ones failing and if you buy them from VW you would have some comeback. In fact, buy from anywhere, they would have a years warranty.
