Group buy for a spare MY12 16" stock Tiguan 'Portland' alloy rim

    Hi,

Looking for a full sized spare for your MY12 Tiguan? I know I am.

Having just painstakingly limped 550km home on the space saver, I am now prepared to lose a bit of boot space for a full sized spare for any long distance driving, don't feel like tolerating constant abusive/dangerous behaviour from other motorists ever again.

As tyre shops rarely have any alloy wheel with the same offset and bolt pattern, and VW stealers always do what they do the best ($592 each - ouch), the last option is to look for used genuine wheels on the classified/ebay.

I found a set of as-new MY12 "portland" alloy rims located in Sydney for $700, however since all I need is just one, I am looking for three Sydney based MY12 owners to share the purchase. I will pick up the rims, then organise time/place for you to pick up, each rim will be $175 cash. Interstate purchasers may be considered, but freight cost may be high.

pm me if you are interested, first come first serve. p.s. it's just for the alloy rim only, no tyre included. FYI I recently paid $185 for a stock Pirelli P6 tyre fitted.

Although this thread may evetually end up in the classified section, but I want to make sure MY12 Tiguan owners know about it first.

    Cheers
    Will

I'm actually thinking about offloading my 3000km stock wheels, they are 2012 model 16". In the process of finding a new set to suit my tig, so if you are interested we can work out some sort of timing and definitely a better price than what you quoted above.

    Hi Will,

Do you know if the wheel will fit within the space saver space? Or will it raise the boot floor?

    Cheers

Yep I've got a full size spare in my boot and the floor sits on top of the spare. It's raised above (by 2-3cm) the height of the boot lip.

So all we have to do is work out how to raise the boot lip by 2-3cm?
The price of 2nd hand OEM 16" wheels is about to sky-rocket!

I've toyed around with the idea of getting a large piece of plywood and making a new boot floor which sits flush with the top of the spare wheel... which would save you the 2-3cm. I'd then just have the boot liner sit on top.

The other idea I had was to stand the spare up and then get access to the quite deep area under the floor. Still tossing up what to do.... hadn't thought of raising the boot sill

I was hoping someone had a neat solution for this - Phil G has done a nice job with his full size spare. He's posted a few nice pics in the thread: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...oot-69320.html

Hi - I'm in Canberra but come to Sydney to visit the wifes family 4 to 6 times a year. (Mother-in-law 102!!) would love to pick up a full size rim. Are yours all spoken for? - Johnno

Keep us in the loop about these. Given they would have tyres i would be interested in buying one if the rest can be offloaded. It sounds like yours would be better priced too

Phil G'S pictures must have gone "missing" but I've put up my boot installation photos here: How to Guide - Install a Full Size Spare / New Floor in Tiguan Boot

There's also a few before/after photos here: Before/After Photos Tiguan Full-Size Spare Install

Hope people find this useful. I had toyed around with installing the wheel vertically and having a deep but narrower boot (this probably would have used the space a little more efficiently), however decided in the end just run with a standard installation.

Trick is to find someone who is looking to put some aftermarket wheels on their Tig and then use the left-over wheels as spares.
