Remote start / ignition

I know we have sort of chattted about this before, but after watching the new ad for the Ameriican spec Passat, which features the remote start option, I would like to know if we will ever got this here in Aust?

Perhaps at least on the upper spec models??

Seen this feature also on MY11 Golf GTIs in US.

Not that I've heard of. In fact I "think" it's illegal to fit remote starts here after somebody was run over by a remote starting vehicle (it had been left in gear) somewhere. Not positive on the "illegal" aspect though.

It shouldnt start if left in gear? A Manual cant be started without the clutch engaged, and the auto or DSG wont start unless in park?

Perhaps the one that ran someone over was tampered with by a back-yarder?

Very likely, can't remember the details, it was a few years back now, but I'm pretty sure they banned them ? Could be that they're allowed now but not that I've actually seen.
