What engine code?
Hi everyone,
anyone had any experience with running rich on idle and running rich off idle CEL codes (P2178 and P218
My mechanic suggested it was a faulty PCV valve and consequently got it replaced although the CEL with the same codes have returned.
Booked in for a carbon clean next week to hopefully address the issue.

The engine code, not the fault code, mate.
Not a massive boost leak?
Sorry misread your post. See pic below for engine code.
I’ve also noted that the engine oil smells like gas despite having an oil change 700kms ago.
On two occasions it has also struggled to crank requiring me to push the gas pedal for it to crank over.
Car is backfiring on deceleration.
My fuel rail pressure reading is as below. Does that seem high?

It's not on there, but I suspect you have a TSI engine. The engine code is on the sticker in the service book.
Fuel in the oil, first guess is a bad HPFP internal leak. Fuel in the oil gets ingested through the PCV system. I had this on a MK6R a while ago. If you isolate the PCV and vent to atmosphere as a test. It will run normally.
NOTE driving with fuel in the oil is bad, you could be wearing out bearings. Another symptom of the R was a proper death rattle in the top end as it warmed up.

Dont look at single blocks, there's requested and actual pressures and usually one that calculates the deviation between them.
I’ve got 2.0 tsi (same as the mk6 gti)
I’ve ceased driving my car and booked it in for it to be looked at as well as a carbon clean on Wednesday.
Can it also be faulty fuel injectors? And carbon build up?

fuel has to get in the oil, thats not a carbon build up issue.
Fuel would need to get past the rings to enter the sump.
Maybe an injector is stuck open? that would surely show on one sparkplug.
If all four plugs are black, I'd be thinking about the HPFP. Although this is just my theory, I havent looked to see if seals have failed on this style pump.
These are my plugs after 700kms.
I did also see that one of my coil packs (4th one) were discoloured/ bronze in colour in comparison to the original silver they come in.
